YoyoFactory: New Genesis, Aluminum Dream & Nightmare

What happened with the 2012 ones?? ???

Maybe 2012 was a tie. I have the black with gold splash, and think it’s great. Here’s my Nightmare spinning. Gorgeous!

Hey TotalArtist, I was wondering if you could comment on how the play of the Nightmare compares to that of the Space Cowboy or something like the Draupnir? If it is like a lighter Space Cowboy (which is an amazing yoyo) then Yoyofactory may have hit a straight up home run in my book.

Wow that’s gorgeous.

I’m curious how different this will play from the Axis Pulsefire. The overall profile is very similar (as it is a V shape) but the Pulsefire is 7075 while the Nightmare is 6061 with some thicker SS rims. Still trying to decide on getting it (deep inside I want it) while I’m still concerned about that axle and short bearing seat (mainly that short seat).

A friend bought one over the weekend at a local shop only to find out that the yoyo sort of just fell apart out of the box. When he went to try to screw it back together, it was like it just wouldn’t thread. Not sure if the threads ripped out during assembly or if the axle is so short that it can’t even reach the other yoyo half. But for a DOA like this with the price that was paid, it’s concerning (Thankfully he got things sorted out with YYF in terms of replacement). Hopefully that was just a freak thing to happen, as much as my Aluminum Dream was pretty bad out of the package (had to do some bearing swapping and tuning until I got it smoother than my Space Cowboy :o )

The Nightmare plays closer to the Pulsefire or Krown ST, very different from the Space Cowboy. It’s light and fast but still has that crazy bimetal stability. I’ve been debating picking up one of the new bimetals but haven’t decided which I like best. Nightmare is up at the top of my list though, excellent price and looks killer!

And AngryGumball - I wouldn’t worry about the bearing seat or axle, it’s pretty unlikely that it’s going to strip but if it does just call the store you bought it from and they should be able to fix it or replace it.

I was looking at one of my older throws last night and it also has a pretty low bearing seat and have had no issues. I think I’ll give the Nightmare a whirl - that death colorway

Yea the Space Cowboy is great and very stable, but like may describe it, it’s got a lot of heft to it. For me it’s a good “learning yoyo” if I want to take something slow.

I can’t compare to the Draupnir, because I don’t own one, and haven’t played one long enough to compare. I don’t want to be the person who throws something for a few minutes and renders an opinion or comparison.

The Nightmare, in my opinion, plays heavier and more stable than the Space Cowboy. What’s different about the Nightmare is that it seems to ease onto the string, like a floaty throw would, but when it hits the string, it has a nice hefty presence, and you can really feel it. I think the Nightmare is that blend of float, with the solid string feel. It’s different than anything else I have in my collection in terms of how it feels while playing it. If you like a throw with a nice presence when it hits the string, like I do, but it seems to ease onto the string and not slam down onto it, the Nightmare is your dream yo-yo. You know how you ease into bed at night, or ease to sit down onto the couch (sofa)? The Nightmare eases onto the string like that, but when it hits, it’s solid and you can really feel it. It’s almost like a surprise when it hits, because of the way it feels the rest of the time. That’s the best way I can describe it.

Nothing was wrong with it, it just wasn’t as good as the 2011 ones.

Just ordered a “Death” colorway Nightmare. Glad to know it doesn’t feel like a brick on a string yet still has that solid feeling to it once it reaches the end.

So jealous of everyone that I don’t have the funds to get this right now. If anyone is getting one, order me one and ill paypal you money. Or just gift me one. I’m cool with that too.

So my Nightmare came in today and wanted to say that this is a nice throw! The first thing I actually did was unscrew it to see how short the axle and such really are. Pretty similar to my Raptor so I’m just going to be careful and it should be fine.

It plays slightly floatier than the Axis Pulsefire but feels really good. Definitely one of YYF’s best high end throws!

Oh, and the Cypher is amazing too, everyone should have one!

So I got an Aluminium Dream today.

That yoyo is a masterpiece. I say that quite soberly.

I don’t think it really lacks anything.

It feels so perfectly balanced. It even has a very powerful throw and bind feel.

Next to the Cypher is is the best YYF yoyo I’ve used.

Kudos to YYF.

This is how I felt. Perfectly balanced. Wouldn’t change anything about it. Really a phenomenal throw.

The Aluminum Dream is an amazing throw for the cost. Feels like something that should cost more, and they are among one of my favorite YYF throws that are under $60. It’s very powerful and snaps back to my hand with a lot of spin, only begging for more to be thrown at it.

Update, my Nightmare hit the tile floor yesterday (accidents happen) and noticed a small gap between the aluminum and the steel ring. I was luckily able to push it back into place but it looks like (unless it’s just mine) these don’t take kindly to getting dinged at all.

Still very amazed by this throw, but now concern has risen again, hoping that was a fluke.

Doesn’t ring misalignment mess with most bimetals that have rings on the outside profile?

I’m not sure but unique to the Nightmare is a metal ring that actually has an overhang around the outside edge of the yoyo perhaps giving extra leverage should the yoyo accidentally strike the floor.

My other Bimetal throws have the rings flush to the edge and haven’t seen any misaligned rings when my throw kissed the ground.

Oh. I was under the impression that you fully dinged the yoyo. If it barely grazed the floor, maybe it had something to do with angles?

It smacked the ground at a decent speed (loud ping noise). Since it’s a SS rim striking tile floor it didn’t leave a mark).

Are these usually just press fit onto the aluminum? I had a friend tell me about his Kentech Euler and how he just dropped it and had a ring pop off…would be devastated if that happened to any of my bimetals
