Yoyo CAD & Prototyping Adventures

First create a decal (probably white with transparent background as a PNG)

Then find INSERT → DECAL in the menu. I’ll step you through the rest.

Hey man, is there anyway you could post another download for this? I would love to use it, but it says that link no longer has any geometry.

Here’s one that I’m sure works right now

The design in it is really underweight, but it’s a complete example

Those CAD programs confuse the heck out of me. You guys must be pretty good to use those!

Thank you so much! you’re the bomb man.

They’re confusing me like crazy man, I’m just trying to push through :joy:

Here’s my super low budget idea of a CAD drawing for my next acetal yoyo. Lol.

Sad thing is, I’m actually a little bit proud of this.

That looks great, though. You have a wonderful sense of shape and style.

Thanks, but it looks pretty plain to me. Lol.

The idea of this one was maximizing performance.

@Glenacius_K, don’t be modest, it looks awesome. Sometimes it’s hard to realize how cool something will look when you’re not necessarily designing for style.

I’ve been doing some testing with my 3D printed yoyos, and currently have this guy cooking

I’ve been experimenting with the embedded decal for looks and to help me keep them organized. I did worry it’d have significant side effects, but it doesn’t seem to be a big deal. printing it you can barely feel them indents, it more so the plastic being laid in that pattern.

That seems too thin at one point to be made out of POM?

Looks like about 1.4mm. not sure what that means structure-wise though

Unless POM is as strong as 6061, which I highly doubt, that really does seem far too thin at the middle point to be durable.

That’s me and my poor technical drawing skills.

The wall will be a minimum of 2mm.

The final design with the measurements for all of the straight cuts I need to make.

I’m going to do this for all of my unresponsive models.

Ive done a little bit of research and was told that more like 3-4mm is safer for Delrin/POM wall thickness.

I tend to err on the side of caution though and use the following for my Alu designs to date.

7075/7068: 1.2mm
6061:1.6mm

Nah, I’m sure 2 mill will be fine.

@The_Machinist what do you know about minimal acetal wall thickness?

acetal… corn… we call it maize

You can call it deep fried custard if you want.

I’m going to stick to what the engineer at the professional plastics engineering place calls it…

Acetal.
