FAF updates we have most of what we need at this point for a teaser end of week, and first week video just need mr Mullins magic tossed in.

logo redesign being worked on by a well know artist in yoyo.

Working on sponsor banner and if time a instagram page to socialize the event more.

We have majority of sponsors we need with a few more feelers still dangling out for a few gaps. Some awesome prizes in the pool this year.

Ruleset was worked on and decided on prize structure.

Drank bourbon and or put kids to bed

Workhorse notes maybe a tad lighter, focus on modern responsive 0a/1a, 3mm bearing post is a no go but maybe 4mm. PIF is found and folks generally love the workhorse as is comparing it to the al mijo.

Let me know if I missed anything or got something wrong. I’m being mildly vague on some things on purpose cause those details aren’t announced yet or fully locked in.

Everyone involved, guests, volunteers, and sponsors are all amazing and making this a fantastic project.

Two Prizes Donated for “Boomers Only” that participate in the Events!

I am affectionately calling them “Participation Trophies”. But to keep it Boomer, not everyone gets one. There are only 2 in existence.

I attended the 1/24/24 Boom Zoom.

WOW! The flurry of activity, generosity, great ideas and initiative - Boomers sharing their Yo-Yo and “Real Life“ talents towards making a special club with a great vibe.

There was so much progressing I could hardly keep up …. The Workhorse, Donation Initiatives, Merch, the February thing, the March thing, widespread sponsorship support.

My audio connection was a little spotty, so not confirmed, but I thought I heard someone might have even convinced the Pope to create an extra month just in case we run out and need one to celebrate a future Boomer Yo-Yo initiative. Unconfirmed.

Just one Boomer’s Opinion, but anyone who is reluctant to be a Boomer, passive or active, may be missing out on a good thing and probably won’t be welcome on my lawn.

Special Thanks to Cody.

@GnarlyCharlie so in your experience
Do you think you’d be able to use some of your banner design to also make one for the YouTube page.
Also for the main club logo consider having one sized for the Boomer profile picture too. I’m excited for your work on that one!

Yo I read that fixed axle feb contest and got excited then realized it was last year and got sad then saw y’all are hosting it this year and got excited again. Are y’all planning to do the same thing as last year? Like are y’all asking for a 60 secondish FS again ? Thanks!

We have a combo of easy to hard to damn how they do that tricks it’s gonna be a fun time. Admittedly we haven’t finalized the March trick list so if there are ideas people want to see toss them out here.

Ooo bummer well y’all should add that just for fun. Idk that part sounded interesting hmmm imma just do it anyway bc it sounds fun to think about something longer and y’all can join me if you want .

Absolutely.

So far we have only had two weeks to throw this together.

At this point, we are just not set up for judging or Sponsorship for that portion of last years event.

The Trick ladder portion and Prizes “Should” be on par though.

Yeah I’m trying to work it out too where the artwork will have a more horizontal orientation so it will work well for banners and such too. I assumed it would anyway simply due to the nature of the club name being spelled out, but it’s definitely something I’m keeping in mind. Ideally the artwork will be able to work for multiple uses (YouTube banner, logo for sponsor ads, profile pictures) that way there is some continuity across various platforms and the club.

I’m super excited to see what some of the artists ideas are. I’m purposely not dropping their name here yet until we can unveil their work.

What makes a Great Modern Responsive Yoyo?

Lightweight and snappy response are the 2 largest factors for me. Feeling comfortable in the hand is a very close 3rd.

For me, I grew up playing responsive, it was the norm. I actually have a large majority of my collection setup in some level of responsive. What makes a great modern responsive is a yoyo that I can throw a 1A trick but also do a fixie style trick. Balanced for flips and stalls, but has a good weight and decent rim weight that’ll allow for longer string tricks.

Perfect answer. I wanna be able to kwijibo and boing as well as stalls and flip tricks. I basically just want it to play like a freehand one. It snaps when I want it to and spins when I want it to.

AlleyCat 650B is the closest I’ve found that does what I want. I can do 1A tricks, flips, shoot the moon, etc.

I’ve been thinking this should be the goal for the Unresponsive, when we get around to it.

Oh yeah, shoot the moon is very important also. I would love to get my hands on an alleycat 650b but I think I’ve seen maybe two pop up for sale in the two years I’ve been watching for them and they always sell immediately no matter the price tag it seems. Honestly, the workhorse hits most of these marks for me. I remember someone saying that we should up the diameter a little for smoother flips, and after playing with it for awhile, I think that might be a good call.
