Is mid month too late to contact companies for prizes?
This would be very awesome.
Hi, everyone! I had not planned on hosting a FAF this year. But, I think it’d be great if someone chose to pick up the reigns. I would say the format I did last year was the most successful from all the other years I’ve organized it.
If anyone chooses to be the organizer this year and has any questions, feel free to hit me up.
Oh no, your FAF videos were so good. But also totally understandable as I’m sure it takes a lot of work.
Are we thinking weekly videos should be made as in previous years? We would either need a host that can hit every trick (if that’s the format we go with) or a members can help by sending a video of them hitting the trick to splice into the video.
I’m just going to throw this out there, and of course feel free to go in another direction, but I have a camera and my girlfriend has iMovie on her computer, so I’m not incapable of making weekly videos for the month of February. That being said, I’ve never made YouTube style videos and it would be very rough. We would also need to reach out to sponsors. Some of you may have a better line of communication for this than others.
I love the idea of a contest and such I would also be fine with just a trick a week thing in general. Regardless I’m participating and and if I can do anything to help with the cause I’m happy to help.
I dont see an issue with reaching out mid month to see if anyone’s willing to sponsor it. I also love the idea of fixed axle February and modern responsive march being related and tied to each other.
I’ve been thinking of doing this. I had some custom stickers made in the past for a butterfly. Can get them for a decent price if anyone wants in. 50 stickers is the minimum order. I think they’d be like $2 each, shipped or $2.75 each for holographic. And like anything, the more I order the cheaper they get.
Here’s the sticker I had made.
I can help with the running of FAF and MRM, but I’m not skilled enough to record tricks for it
If there’s gonna be a council, count me in.
If we go with the weekly video concept, what if 4 people volunteer to each take 1 week. Each video can have the same graphic at the opening so it’s clear that they are all part of the same event. The person whose week it is to record the video will still get their name included in the drawing for weekly trick completion. Then you don’t have to miss out on any cool prizes, and if you can’t yet hit whatever the tricks are then you don’t have to demonstrate that week. Or you can always just cut in clips of someone else doing the trick. However that may take more video editing than is convenient.
Love the ideas.
I enjoyed FAF last year. Some of the things that were important to me;
Weekly Tricks; I think each week would need a beginner, intermediate and advance trick.
I was able to work at my own pace. Yes, it was uncomfortable posting a video. But depending on how we set it up, we can use a honor system with bonus if you post a video. The goal would be, trying not to exclude anyone not willing to film and post.
Prizes: I love the idea. BUT lets also think of how we can do this without prizes also.
From what I have gathered so far;
Fixed Axel February = 4 weeks
This would be 4 “Yoyo Boom Club FAF” Threads containing 3 tricks each.
Thought- For the beginner tricks, we link to the Yoyo Expert trick videos? I think this would be a good nod toward our host.
Do we have any volunteers for Hosts?
We need to establish trick lists;
8 Beginner Tricks (4 FAF, 4 MRM)
8 Intermediate Tricks (4 FAF, 4 MRM)
8 Advanced Tricks (4 FAF, 4 MRM)
I will start reaching out to some of the brands and see if we can get any support.
Other thoughts?
Before this starts, someone needs to tell me how to get my butterfly to sleep! It’s SUPER responsive, and I don’t feel like I even have enough time to get it into a stall
Unwind the string more. Loose string tension.
Offhand, does anyone have measurements for the caps on the Butterfly or the inner circle of a Freehand cap?
I don’t have a butterfly but I have a Free Trade butterfly style fixie. I just slather the yo-yo end of the string with chap stick and it sleeps well as long as my string tension is loose.
What if there’s an option to just DM or email your video to whoever the host is. That way they don’t have to make their video public if they don’t want to.
I’ll start putting my mind toward thinking up some tricks for a trick ladder. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
1.9 inches
So I guess a question I have is, what is uniquely a FAF trick and what is uniquely a MRM trick? A think trapeze, brother, and double or nothing stalls, are pretty great beginner week 1 tricks, but are they technically more modern responsive than fixie?
Also, it could be fun to incorporate some more difficult stall picture tricks into FAF.
Yep, 1.9”. That’s what I had mine made as. The manufacturer ended up cutting them slightly smaller. They came to me at 1.892” or something like that, why you can see the white line in the photo above with the sticker I had made.
