Dream big or go home.
One day I’ll be fixing boats on a Mexican beach. Morgan Freeman will arrive with a smile on his face, having finally found me. He’ll be carrying a small box with him. Within this box will be a Titanium Pelican.
It’s for me.

I think your wife would appreciate the consistent monthly budgeted amount with the membership
Oh my gosh!!! I saw the bones in his arm start to splinter on that twist!!
Club Business;
Fixed Axel February is fast approaching. I have a feeling a lot of us will be participating.
With that said, one idea for the Club is to facilitate Modern Responsive March.
What are the thoughts of the members?
How can we set it up?
How do we want to represent both ourselves and the event?
Brainstorming Session - Go!
I think a thread (of course) that encourages people to simply share video of them doing nothing in particular on their favorite modern responsives. One issue is that many are not comfortable sharing video, so perhaps one focus of the thread could be to encourage the shy to open up a bit.
I think the positive reinforcement that people normally give on here is important as well for those who do share. This forum is usually pretty good vibes but a lot of people’s hesitation for sharing probably comes from like the Reddit wild west experiences and such where it’s just instant “you suck, be better” haha.
The best March event, IMHO, was when @edhaponik just extended his “hit 7 tricks” contest from FAF with a second trick list. So, I’d try to find out if anyone is running a FAF contest this year that we could just extend…
Last year @yomartyo coordinated a trick a week for contest entries. I like that style contest, or the “hit this trick set” style contest because they are more approachable for me than “do a 1 minute freestyle.”
One other thing is we should line up some prizes for a contest. Doesn’t need to be throws, maybe just some club T-shirts?
It would be awesome if we could send consolation stickers to anyone who participated…
Oh and any sticker we make for the cause should be sized to fit Butterfly caps.
This also has good vibes to it. Single tricks is more along the lines of what I was talking about. A 1 minute freestyle from me would look remarkably like a lot of the same stuff over and over.
The next question would be, what tricks? You’ll have some who won’t feel challenged by easier tricks, but at the same time, you’ll have many who aren’t advanced enough for the more challenging tricks, so maybe a few tiers could run simultaneously? I know that for more advanced players, hitting those more advanced tricks on a responsive always adds that extra layer of challenge. So in determining the advanced trick set, maybe consider tricks with elements that are especially difficult to hit on responsive (not impossible) so as to add the challenge. Just throwing ideas out there.
This is where I think it would be good to build on any Fixed Axle February event so we can just “keep the good times rolling.” When Ed ran it the tricks were slightly more advanced than FAF and could benefit from the extra spin time of a bearing.
And if it were a contest with prizes I like the idea of a participation reward like a sticker or such. I’d like to put up for consideration something that may help coax out the shy. I bowled on a league many, many years ago and at the end of the season there was always an awards banquet. Along with the top placers there were other awards such as “most improved bowler”. (Which I won because the year I started, you couldn’t be a worse bowler than me, so any improvement…) So maybe since it’s a month long and that gives people enough time to chronicle improvement…
I also really liked the trick-a-week style contest for the same reason. It was just a single drawing entry per week and all you had to do was hit the one trick.
Most certainly we want to be active in discouraging any such behavior. It is impossible for everyone to be expert at everything. It’s a fact of life that no matter what activity you choose…one could be picked that you suck at. There will always be people of varying skill levels in every activity known to man. As a community, we can not grow if we allow members of said community to weaken the community with ridicule. It’s immature and unbecoming of grown people who claim to live in a “woke” society. The strongest structures are those built with adequate support (some Roman aqueducts still stand today and they are hardly strong looking structures) so if we support each other, and build one another up this will make our community stronger. There’s hate around every corner and all we have to do is choose not to go along with the masses. Choose not to reflect the behavior that you find distasteful in others.
As a club I feel like actively being that voice of positivity is a fine way to represent ourselves.
I can give away some strings and possibly some stickers as well!
Maybe some holo-backed stickers for butterfly caps, and normal vinyl that will fit a Freehand cap. The ideas are flowing…
Also, and I can’t commit to this just yet, but maybe as some larger prize, I can give away this year’s new 0a Throw-Yo tee.
Here’s a shout out to @G2_Jake for his shout out to the Club on his MMYY this morning.
Working on those protos this week!
Sorry no fixed axle Feb from me. Do my best for a few responsive tricks though.
This is how it’s been for years now, right? I agree, that route of running FAF always seemed the best to me. I recently watched an FAF from 2018 hosted by Throws N Brews where people just submitted clips and the best couple were selected at winners. It didn’t have the same communal feeling as the few tricks a week @yomartyo was doing. Those were really great because the tricks always started easy and got progressively more difficult. And he was teaching the tricks too so it really encouraged people to hop in and learn. And if you landed one, there was the added incentive of being your name thrown in the prize drawing, which is exciting.
Have we gotten confirmation that @yomartyo is taking this year off from hosting?
I feel like sharing tricks outside the scope of the contest should also be encouraged. And a tier that’s more suited to beginners should be included.
Very true, it shouldn’t soley be about the contest.
