It happens to many unfortunately. Sorry to hear you have that bothering you. It may sound stupid but if you stretch all of your joints from your fingers to your shoulders it helps. No one experiences pain like that without tightening up and that creates tension at the sight of pain , then swelling, which increases pain. Stretching will help lower that tension as well as give the fluid buildup that causes the swelling some help moving out of the area. It’s not a cure but it will help. If you find a stretch that hits on a particularly sensitive area, linger on it with long stretches maybe massaging the soar spot vigorously. Not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice. Just experience.
I’ve got some stretches a physical therapist gave me a while back, and they help. The chiropractor helps immensely, but he’s too pricey to see on a regular basis!
Thats a tough one; Go to the Chiropractor or get a new yoyo? Decisions, Decisions.
I am curious; How many people stretch before/after yoyo?
In my line of work, repetative motion breaks help a lot. Arms straight out, rolling wrists clockeise and counter clockwise. Holding your hand out, like telling someone to stop, then pulling your fingers back to your forearm. Hands together, roll them towards our chest, then forward towards your toes.
With yoyo being a sport, I am pretty certain most stretch/do these things (Sarcasm).
However, I am noticing as age increase there is a inverse correlation with aches and stiffness. Cold weather seems to compound this issue.
In my case, being Type 1 Diabetic for 28 years, cirrculation seems to be a bigger thing for me. If my hands get cold, Im done.
Maybe try the heat/cold system used to treat sore bruises or sore muscles. Heat to bring fluids in/relax the area. Ice to move the fluids out.
Good luck
My hands get sore from work. I’m in IT so if I’m not using unergonomic keyboards at my not well thought out desk, I’m having to twist flimsy copper pairs and fish them through RJ45 jacks. I’ve cut tendons, drilled into my hand and recently messed up my right wrist (and right temple) with a hammer drill. I LOVE THE COLD. My hands do not. I need to start doing some stretching and strengthening exercises.
I’m a web dev, and I have a VERY specific setup I need to use or I’m dead!
I’ve been trying to get them to upgrade our set ups! I bring my own trackball from home. Hopefully I can wear them down, nice standing desk, ergo board, something. Then again I had to buy all my own tools so I’m not holding my breath.
This is ultimate Boomer Club chat now! We are official! Hahaha
I have occasional carpal tunnel from work as well as a minor essential tremor in my hands, so I definitely get those days where I pick up a yoyo and try to weigh the pros and cons of fun vs pain, lol.
Sometimes have to wrap skin tape around the wrists to give it a little support, but hitting the yoyo usually wins out in the battle.
I made a thread about aches and pains and yo-yos a while back. My back especially where I had surgery gets cranky in the cold. Similarly my knee hates the cold specifically the right knee so my 0A and kendama suffer in the cold.
My wrists get grumpy in general especially if I’m slinging beglier or rolling knuckle bones a bunch my carpal tunnel gets unpleasant and I end up in my brace. Yo-yoing with a brace sucks. I click my mouse less in my current roll and type more so my right wrist is spared a bit as my keyboard is a bit more ergonomic.
I’ve found using a standing desk has helped my knees a tad and I go to PT for my back. Still sometimes it just hurts and I take Tylenol…
I have a Kinesis Pro ergo keyboard as well as a wonderful ergo mouse. They’re both amazing and have helped me a ton over the long haul. I’ve got carpal tunnel, as well as arthritis in my fingers. A lovely combination I’ve had since my early 20’s. My thumbs are especially bad, which I attribute to the lifelong playing of video games, from which I am now just about a year and a half sober.
The boomer yo-yo for sure needs a colorway called Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
I had to cut my game playing harsh. A little here and a little there instead of hours at a time. It’s helped. But that Kinesis would help more! I’ve been eyeing one for a while. The Advantage in particular. Kinesis advantage, standing desk, my elecom huge trackball. I can feel my joints relaxing now. One day.
It would need to be a powder coat…
Powder Coat = Tablet Style
Polished Finish = Gel-Cap Style
Can I Cerakote my joints?
I haven’t really done any gaming since I had kids. Really forced me to refocus my efforts as time is so fleeting now.
It would be nice wouldn’t it?
This is the way!!
Red and baby blue half swap with a white string, perfect.
I’m a software engineer. I need a vertical mouse otherwise I get a pain from my pointer finger knuckle to my wrist.
My other wrist pain was entirely resolved by locking my chair back vertical. It took me a long time to figure that one out.
