Yoyo Boomers Club

Excited for this!

Best logo submitted, IMO, so far. Great job!

Here is my opinion, as someone that’s played responsive for a very long time. I firmly believe that the super light yoyo is a fad and will burn out. It’s nice for some things. I’d bump up the weight to around 56-58g (give it a bit more rim weight, not a lot, just a little), and widen the gap to around 3.5 mm. This will make for a great all-around yoyo. It could be used as a responsive yoyo with little to no maintenance but clean the bearing and you’ve got a great semi to unresponsive yoyo.

I like it so far. I wouldn’t mind adding a few more grams either. I like the gap around 3mm personally.

The Harbinger won’t be this. It is 48g and has a narrow gap. Its 0A performance will be top notch, though.

I will say, I do miss my Harbinger. Probably right about the weight because that spun very nicely and stalled like a dream.

Which style Yoyo would you like to see the Yoyo Design Committee focus on first?

This vote actually mildly depends on how soon the responsive and unresponsive jackal are coming from a budget perspective on my end. If Jake releases multiple responsive back to back I’ll go broke lol

Yeah, the light yoyos are good for fixed axle type play, lots of stalls and flips. For me though, the type of 0A I play (a mix of fixie and 1A), they’re just too light. I don’t think they truly match a fixed axles play either. Not knocking any of the yoyos designed like that, they just have a different style of play than what I prefer.

Part of my thought on the Responsive;

Since we will have a Unresponsive, it should lean more towards 0A than 1A.

If the end user puts a bearing blank in, will it play decent?

That’s my thought too. Might as well get the yo-yos to play more toward a specific style and be really good at it instead of doing something that tries to cover all the bases.

Yeah. This goes back to what the designer said earlier. You end up with a watered down throw that doesn’t excel in any way. I don’t play 0a style at all but more like 1a and some of the throws I have that are designed to excel at 0a are problematic for me. This is where caps would be nice. Options of plastic and aluminum could add variety. Also o-rings were mentioned earlier as well. I’m pretty stoked about the design and I think even at 50 grams it’ll play very nice. Thanks for doing this Mr Jake.

Howdy Boomers.

How is everyone? Is anything interesting going on?

My current pet project; Yoyo Weight Rings

Through our discussions for the responsive yoyo, I ordered some different size O-rings from Grainger. This is a for Science Project. (Note- This hasn’t been a confirmed avenue on the responsive yoyo yet.)

All O-rings have an Outer Diameter of 50mm. As the Thickness of the Oring gets larger, the inner Diameter is what changes.

I just received the 5 sizes I ordered. I am going to commandeer my wife’s food scale to try and get weights for these.

That’s awesome! I hope your results are fruitful or at least interesting.

Only thing interesting in my world is I got this beat up manual typewriter to run again, and I got a concussion at work.

I told him those right ones looked right. Sexy if you will. Thick enough. Okay I’ll stop

I agree that those will add the most weight.

But the “For Science” part I am curious about is the other weights as well. I plan on trying these in my SB2 and seeing if I can notice any difference.

“Can I tune the weight with these rings to get the play I want out of the yoyo?”

I like this approach a base yoyo that plays great and then a few “options” to tune it the way you want.

I can say that with the proposed shape of the “Ultimate Boomer Yo-Yo” it looks like it will have a nice lip to fit an o-ring behind. So even if it’s not an actual option, with some experimentation like you are doing now, I think a suitable o-ring could be found for this purpose. There’s pretty much an infinite size range on o-rings.

Sweet! Thanks. Will I be able to snag one of these custom yybc yo-yos when they’re available or is that for charter members only?

They will be open to anyone in the club.

We are still in design stage for the Responsive. Club voted to do that one first.

I havent mentioned it yet, need to confirm with Mr. Jake once we get further down the road. But, I think it would be cool to have a “Limited” version Engraved with “Charter Member”.

As things progress, information will be provided here.
