Yoyo Boomers Club

For bigger rings, I buy them in blanks (not as donuts but the long strips) that I can cut and glue myself to whatever size I want.

@Yodaddyo recommended I check out the club. I believe that was a great recommendation. Looks like home to me.

Late to the conversation, but I agree with this. Since I picked the hobby back up just a couple months ago, my collection has grown from the 3 old throws I had from the late 90’s/early 00’s (Viper, Bumblebee GT, Chain Reactor) to include 16 more. Mostly in search of finding that perfect organic. The one “style” that has been a one-and-done leaving no desire to try to find something different or better is modern responsive. I got a Weekender and I believe it is near perfect.

Would you mind posting more on this? Maybe a “How To”?

I am super curious. Thank you.

I can’t find the blanks now, but the idea is pretty straightforward. It is just long rounded rubber cord like this.

You just cut them bit by bit until it can fit snugly into the yoyo. Then remove from the yoyo, stick the ends with superglue to make a ring, done.
Also I believe you can heat the tip of a cutter/blade up, then press the edges you want to join into both side of the hot blade to melt them slightly, then remove the blade to join them together. But superglue works for me so I don’t bother.

“For Science” Update-

I am in doubt of the Accuracy of my wifes scale.

Edit- Last ring is 6mm not 5.5 that I wrote on my sheet.

BUT - If it is true, or even close, being able to customize rim weight to how you want the yoyo to feel/play is very intriguing to me.

Definitely getting the “Boomerish” vibe with this.

Thoughts?

Even if the scale isn’t accurate being able to manipulate the weight of a yoyo +8g or more is pretty cool you could also push a smaller diameter weight ring in inside the initial ring to add more weight getting a bit more out of the setup

Great Point

The only way to know for sure is to weigh something you are sure the weight of and see if the scale is accurate. It shouldn’t be too difficult to find a 10 gram something or other somewhere. I could see that being accurate though, 1g is actually not that much weight at all.

Did you just grab these at the hardware store? I need to mess with this!

A nickel weighs 5 grams. Easiest way to test and easy to remember!

I guess its close enough…

I can’t wait to hear how this goes. Let us know if it’s worth it to seek some out.

With a Bulk order for 50 complete sets (100 of each Oring), 6 different weights = About $16.00 for a full set.

This is just for the rings. Packaging and shipping would also need to be figured out.

So give or take in the 20 dollar range shipped plus or minus a few dollars for pre made o rings. Neat. Which technically those 50mm rings could then get used elsewhere with somewhat unintentionally compatible yo-yos…

I would be interested in knowing more about the blanks @rizki_yoist was mentioning earlier.

Yoyos that I know rings fit into;

One Drop Deeper State
One Drop Deep State
Doc Pop/Zipline Day Tripper
Yoyo Factory Titanium Confusion

Would require custom fit for other yoyos.

I found it in a local Amazon-like store, I believe it was called “o-ring cord NBR”.
