You want to scientifically determine what the best material for a yoyo is.

Unless you can devise fair tests to exhaustively determine this for millions of different materials, then you canā€™t do it.

Determining the best material for a responsive needs to also marry up with what people think too. Why? because playing yoyo is something to people enjoy, so it can never be objectively determined whay the best material is if at the end of the day people donā€™t enjoy a yoyo from that material.

What Iā€™m saying is, that due to the nature that is meant to be enjoyed, a battery of scientific tests canā€™t determine what the best material is when peopleā€™s enjoyment, regardless of the material, cannot be measured.

nopeā€¦ smhā€¦

besides, tests and data are already out thereā€¦ iā€™ll even provide some that may or may not prove useful for wood hereā€¦ as well as some othersā€¦

EDIT: MOOOOOOOO

Great. Now measure peopleā€™s enjoyment while using that material.

Also, that doesnā€™t prove how good the material is for a yoyo.

i will. when you tell me at what frequency, in hertzā€¦ or whatever other benchmark you use - to determine what constitutes a ā€˜rejectā€™ for vibe.

What is the ideal material for a responsive yoyo? ā€”> Whichever material suits peopleā€™s enjoyment most. ā€”> Which material is most conducive to enjoyment? ā€”> Itā€™s different for everyone. ā€”> Which variables does everyone use to determine enjoyment? ā€”> They base it on a combination of factors including material. ā€”> What is the ideal material for a responsive yoyo?

I canā€™t tell whether the circularity of this discussion is intentionally punny.

This thread got a lot more combative than I thought it would, lol.
My ideal responsive is a Mega Crash, but squeezed together, with a 2.5" wall, and a 2" response pad. It will be unwieldy and stupid. Like me. Suck it, nerds.

Itā€™s mostly just a waste of time. Iā€™m finished with it.

 You mean like the YoYoJam Mega SpinFaktor only even more ridiculous?

Then thereā€™s this monster, which is kinda scary to play. Spinworthy boon for scale.

I donā€™t feel unwelcome! The opinion that ā€œadd more [wood yo-yo] chaos to your life, itā€™s the bestā€ is very very specifically what is unwelcome. I GOT ENOUGH CHAOS IN ME LYFE RIGHT NOW ED KTHXBYEeeee

That being said, I continue to be mega sad that the Tom Kuhn company is dying an excruciatingly slow and painful death ā€¦ the 3-in-1 is a legendary classic

I think a better way of putting it is that the inconsistencies of wood make each piece unique and different, even among the same yoyo, and this is what makes it great. Also the lack of super-smoothness also adds grittiness to the enjoyment (kind of like guitar distortion or dissonant chords in music). The perfection lies in the imperfection.

And damn did this thread get serious fast. I wasnā€™t exactly intending to be able to imagine the platonic form of a responsive yoyo, but it makes me kind of happy that at least someone tried

Yea well, id rather the Washington Post stay away from good music. The metal underground, at least pre-covid, has been doing a stellar job.
