Currently my favorites are Kitty First Class/Mowl and StringLab Type “x” for thinner gap like Free Solo and Plutonium 4.60 -5.00 gap such as VTWO and Ti Edge. I also have been trying YYF Not Bad and I’m liking that just not as much.
I was about to answer you before your question, I tried Kitty first class fat green, and they are quite annoying me, I have to release the tension a lot, I do lot of slack tricks and intricated string combos against the natural rotation of the yoyo and I noticed that the Kitty first class are quite unreliable for my style of play, I remember I get sent with a yoyo some Yellow Kitty first class fat and they was very different but I think I am overthinking it, I do not think the colour change the consistency.
@Throwto100 it was a Kitty first class the yellow strings you sent me with the Fat tire? Right? I think I remember well because I asked you because I liked that string.
Also I can see that a lot of people like them, is it possible that I get a defective little pack of 10?
As you tried the Yoyofriends strings you know what I am talking about, I was so impressed about that string (I had only one came with the shortcut but I tried it also in other yoyos) it’s from there that this whole string stuff came out and now I am searching something like that but easy available in shops which is so hard in UK as everything seems sold out except the Kitty normal and first class
I am noticing that some of the one drop play better with a one drop setting, I am loving the Terrarian in his original form, one drop string and bearing.
For the free solo (which I really like) I agree with you, the one drop string which is “normal thickness” as @Marioyo said it’s perfect for it and also a concave bearing, the fs is a performance yoyo in my opinion!
I see P44 in the forum as well, maybe I have to try their strings as well, it depend how they based, I am always in pain/panic for custom fees that’s why I was looking locally!
My main choice right now is Anonymous string less tension. Not the most durable but plays great and feel slippery on my hand.
I believe they are selling it internationally, but since I live in the same country I can order them custom with less tension. I’m not sure if it is available as a choice elsewhere. I don’t like the normal tension one because it is way too tight (hard to open the end to attach on the yoyo). The less tension really is similar to most other normal strings.
I brought another string bundle from the p44 website and again the quality and price point is insanelygood. poly + nylon for a $20
shout out to @p44company for giving me extra string packs on my order. really good stuff
i’m shocked about your experience with kitty first class and string tension, thats the opposite of my experience. was the 10 pack you said you bought packaging bright yellow/blue like this?
My favorite cheap strings, and maybe I should be mentioning in Unpopular Opinions thread as I’ve never seen anyone else say this, are the One Drop basic strings. They’re a little short for me but I use them on any throws I don’t want thick string on, and usually rock them a lil’ while when a new OD throw shows up with one ready to go.
Just saw that there are more Basic String lovers in here! They tend to find themselves on my responsive and slimline throws.
Also, shout out to anyone who throws extra strings in on a yoyo sale/trade package. Those are arguably the the best “cheap” strings.
My favorite bulk string is the old OT normal that came in this bag. I really like how whippy, soft, and long lasting it is. I haven’t tried new OT string enough to have an opinion, but I really like this batch.
I have some Sochi normal and new OT normal coming. Sochi is my go to after this old OT (I haven’t tried new OT).
I believe so. I do think that it’s possible for minor differences between colors and batches of the same string to exist so you may have just had bad luck with that 10 pack.
Anybody that isn’t saying OT and C3 string is the best are wrong. Cheapest with the best softness/thickness choices
Exactly this Bran, I tried another one yesterday cause I thought maybe it was my bad and it’s the same thing, I am not used to speak bad about products, if I do not like them I just do not use them but this time is so bad I can’ t believe it, literally with the new string yesterday I did couple of tricks: tension all over the place and all the strings I tried from this pack start to lose a bit of strand very quickly, they become all messed up (sorry I cannot explain it better).
If you are curious I can send you pictures once I am home, it’s noticeable how the string is getting destroyed.
In the other side when I tried the Kitty first class sent by Throwto100 they was quite great, they lasted a while and no real torsion problems as well, that’s also why I bought that packet of 10 because I did really like the ones I tried, there was no yellow available so I took the green to try out and this happened.
I am really thinking that maybe I get a defective packed, I do not know how possible can be but it is possible, yesterday I ordered a pack of 50 Monkeyfingers Vines in neon yellow as everyone speak about them so well (I wanted to try Sochi too but is all unavailable in europe apparently), very curious to try them, I will try the sochi as well and then decide which one use as “everyday string”, as I like to stick with one product when I like it
Another vote for One Drop (where available).
I started taking these off the OD yoyos I received and leaving them on my workbench. Since there is always one sitting there, these eventually became my go-to test string for new yoyos that shipped with no string installed. I didn’t think about them much because of the length, but other than that they were pretty good.
Eventually I realized that I like the shorter length and also that OD strings are pretty good for longer than it takes a string I like better to become a string that feels worn out (other than Markmont Formulas).
On top of that they are really cheap.
If the shorter length is acceptable, these are worth a look.
I did like the One drop strings (but I will have always to order them from their shop which is in America and make them expensive) bit thin but they work great and have a great feeling on the hands, durable and good for slacks, I am a short guy myself so the length for me was just perfect!
Have to make a note to save mine for you Bro. My baby skin prefers soft strings so they usually get pulled. Except the one that was on the Thorn, that one I really liked
I found the One drop strings very soft to be honest, is also true that between classical guitar, music in general and other sports I did during my life, my hands are like steel lol
Little off topic I see the new mystery box from One drop I am trying to bite my hands so hard, I have to save money!
It’s very tempting I agree but I don’t like duplicates. I thought my hands would be good like yours from guitar and being calloused from digging lots of holes for trees without gloves but hasn’t helped. Maybe I’m getting more sensitive to pain as I get older.
Damn man, thats such a bummer. That reminds me of my experience with regular kitty lol. I bought 2 10 packs of white before committing to a 100 pack.
Hopefully you find a good string soon!! I love bulk string because it eliminates a variable for me lol
I don’t think the OTS has changed other than packaging. I prefer OTS normal for bulk string. I bought some OTS slim for looping but I think I prefer the normal on those as well.
I’m planning to pick up some P44 Mugen in their sale this weekend.
Thanks man, it is really weird indeed, also I never took many attention to strings but lately I noticed how much it matters also to have a “safe” play mostly using lot of slacks.
I bought the Vines from Monkeyfingers as them are very recommended (and also the only ones I found available in europe), I think the next time I will have to buy a yoyo or do a big order I will try some more from Yoyoexpert so it worth the shipping price.
I like bulk strings also because I really destroy them as I play a lot, I used to use the strings until completely gone, it happened couple of times that the end of the string break and the yoyo fly away after couple of times I promise myself to start to change it more frequently.
Still I do not get why european shops are so “low stocked” compared than yoyoexpert, there are so many yoers in europe!
