I have reviewed (favorably I might add) the Berserker SS before and was critical of their anodizing. They recently released the Krown St.; Limted Ed; which is just solid-black, with gold-rims. This Limited release sold-out instantly. The same yo-yo; with a typical multi-color C3-Yoyodesign acid-wash anodizing has been in-stock everywhere.
This tells me that there is a huge apatite for non-acid washed C3-yoyodesign throws. I too have LOVED C3 yo-yo’s but have been visually turned-off by what I think is consistently, ugly anodizing. I would buy a solid Krown St. in an instant.
Is this just me; does anyone else think their anodizing does not compliment their fine yo-yo’s?
If you are like me; would you buy more yo-yo’s from C3 if their anodizing was more like CLYW; or any other visually-appealing colorways you can think of?
c3 are regarded by many people as having some of the finest anodization going…!
The black with gold rims was certainly classy; however it was extremely limited in quantity. You can’t really compare apples and oranges. My favourite of the Krown.st has been the blue/yellow (and therefore green where they overlap) one.
I think having solid colours for people who prefer them can only be a winning proposition, though.
Some of their darker two tone acid washes look really nice like the black and gold, blue and dark blue and the red and purple found on the accelerator. I find that the acids with more than two colours are a bit too much.
Agreed with all of the above. With regards to the “more than 2 colours”, though, I present this: 3 colours has more depth and texture if they’re from a similar palette. 3 dissimilar colours looks busy as heck. But I found that for example just purple acid wash on clear looks very boring. A subtle amount of a 3rd median colour really gives a yoyo depth.
You have a good point about the similar colour palette, when you have too many dissimilar colours things can get weird like this Dymensionhttp://cdn.yoyoexpert.com/1185/yo-yo-thumb.jpg
I would say this ano is composed mostly of similar colourshttp://cdn.yoyoexpert.com/1016/view/images/01.jpg
A nice solid(not shiny) ano like the og 888’s would be nice.
I like solid more when playing with them, easier to see for the watchers and imo for the performers.
About a year ago, I was about to buy a bonfire. I bought the Zach Edition. Really rare, but expensive. My friend said if he had the money, he would get pink. I have been offered as much as $200 for my Bonfire, but I think I would have liked pinks viability more.
I’d be surprised if C3’s anodizing was holding them back. It makes sense that if it were true, it would surprise C3 as well; I’m sure if they’d received enough negative comments over the years about lackluster anodizing they would have worked toward a solution for it. The limited edition sold out, probably, because it was more special. And if all their yoyos were solids, I bet a limited edition flashy acid wash would sell out. But, for the record, their anodizing doesn’t personally inspire me very much. It’s usually just okay looking in my book.
While the limited edition sold out super fast, I wasn’t really a fan of the gold so it was a no go for me.
I did however go with the Shion Araya version with the almost copper rims which I really liked (with the splash) but if they had made it solid with the “rose” rims, I would probably own two ST’s…sigh, too much bi-metal action.
I feel that C3 would definitely benefit from including solid colours in their lineup. I was really looking forward to the Krown St release but the available colourways have currently put me off pulling the trigger. I’m one of those people who puts “colourway” as one of the most important things I look for in a new yoyo… I just can’t bring myself to buy one in a colour I don’t like, no matter how good it is.
I really can’t put my finger on what it is about them, something just looks a bit off.
The black ones looked fantastic, although I also wasn’t a huge fan of the gold rims (still would have bought one though). Same with the Shion version, I actually love the colour of it but the gold rims just don’t do it for me. It’s doing me’ nut in because I really want to buy one, I’m just hovering my finger over the ‘buy’ button and waiting for more colourways.
Now, if C3 released more of THESE on the other hand:
Then I’d be on that faster than you can say “W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie”.
I think if there’s anything that we learned from that big “solid vs splash” poll we did on here, it’s that as many, if not more people actually prefer solid coloured yoyos. Therefore it would surely make sense for C3 to make runs of solid yoyos as well as their splashes, otherwise they’re cutting out a large amount of potential buyers.
Obviously this is just my opinion, it’s their ship so they can steer it where they want, and they’re clearly doing very well for themselves as it is. Still, I can personally say that if they released more solids and/or improved their splashes (YYF and CLYW are currently SLAYING the splash game), I would definitely buy more of them.
