Wood is Good

Ed, are you really implying that SPYY is making more wooden yoyos? You can wink at me for yes…

BOOM!!! Two jade whips in less than 5 tries on my Lovejoy.

Trying a tea-stain on my Fremont today… we’ll see how that works.

Hopefully it’ll make the carved image a little more apparent too…

got my freemont! its pretty sweet. I wanted to give it a few days before i posted on here. I must say …WOW! i was playing with a wooden yoyo i got in a cheap yoyo set before and this blows it out of the water. Few things to note though. The string he sends with it lasted about 30 mins and was pretty awful. No biggy though i replaced it and kept throwing. The colors in mine are AWESOME (i got a mill end freemont). I asked for both halves to be brown and red but i got a brown and red half and a brown red and orange half. Its goes together well though he matched them up good. The caps, being mill ends, are blue and dont match the halves. Just letting people know because it doesn’t say anything about that on the site. All in all i made a good choice buying it and will have hours and hours of endless fun with it.

Just in case no one saw it, TMBR posted a pic of some SPYY wooden yoyos…

Yeah, I’m getting very excited about that SPYY yoyo. It looks like Ed’s and it looks like a beast. I’m hoping that it’s as heavy as it looks. I need some weight.

Welcome to the world of cotton.

I have a TMBR Irving. It has many sharp edges and they sure hurt sometimes. It also has flat rims for a pretty small catch zone. I find that it’s not responsive enough for low RPMs (large gap width?). Can’t imagine shoot the moon. I’d like to put in a pad, but it’s not take-apart. Nonetheless, fun to play.

I’m looking forward to getting a Lovejoy and possibly putting a pad in there. It’s take-apart, wider, and has rounded and chamfered edges.

Is this a good plan considering my opinion of the Irving? Any other advice?

I was also curious whether the Baldwin had chamfered edges like the Lovejoy.

Finally subscribing to this thread! Sweet.

I generally think take apart designs make fixed axle yoyoing a lot easier because you can set up the gap and response on them. On one piece yoyos, string tension plays a bigger role in response. So, to answer your question: I’ve never thrown a Lovejoy, but by all accounts they are delightful. I’m certain you won’t regret buying one, whether you like your Irving or not

Speaking of Lovejoys, rumor has it they’re coming to YYE. They may already be here, but I haven’t looked since yesterday and I kinda figure it’ll be on the blog when they arrive.

Yes, Colin said on the tmbr facebook page “at YYE very soon” on October 31st so yeah, soon.

hahah i see. Well i was playing with slick 6 or 8 i dont remember what i bought. It lasts 4 times as long as cotton. Though i like the feel of cotton… and its cheap… i cant complain i love it

My cotton string that lasted like 4 days melted on me!
Ok guys, I made a trip to Target the other day looking for early Christmas gifts, and (for those who visit Target, know of the $1.00 section) went to the clearance area. I found a wooden yoyo, for one dollar. Fixed axle and all, so I gave it a try. They are super small, like maybe Spyder 2 size of smaller, and mine had a natural wooden color. They had other colors, like red, green and blue. So the cotton string on it had to come off, it was inside of the axle, so it took some effort to pull it out. I threw in a new cotton string, and woo boy!
$1.00? I would EASILY pay 5-10 dollars for it! Nice finish, great (surprisingly) looper, and just a fun thing to throw. No, it doesn’t sleep long enough for any tricks, I even struggled to do a rock the baby. I can do 10-20 loops on it, and is just a fun micro wooden yoyo! I took a few pictures for some reference, if yall are interested, I am also looking into painting some cool artwork onto it. Sorry for bad quality-

Wow that is impressive

I just bought a 36" walnut dowel from woodcraft to replace duncan butterfly axles. I’m very excited. Not sure how it will be packaged, but that will be interesting too.

My wooden throw is so sweet for string tricks, and it’s imperial shaped. But everytime I see this thread’s name…all I can do is chuckle a little…Such an innuendo, I mean, c’mon…who wouldn’t snicker?

Prevert.

I’d be interested in seeing how you’re doing it.
