I have been a Casual player for a while now and recently found a lot of fun in returning to the Old Style Responsive Wood Yoyo.
I have a few One Piece wooden Yoyo’s.
3 of the Tom Kuhn No Jive 3in1 (a Rainbow Laminate, A Solid Blue and a Devil Chick)
I have also Been hitting my TMBR Irving Pro a lot too.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m a safety pin guy when it comes to picking knots. I even use one on my take apart throws, just because I think it’s usually quicker than taking one apart.
Finally, someone else who sees the light the with the safety pin. I basically never unscrew my yoyos unless i need to fuss with the bearing. I can pick any knot out with a safety pin. Because of that, I don’t worry about a non-takeapart yoyo and knots. What I DO worry about is etching the axle, because I did it on my Eh. We will see how the Pocket love holds up, but so far I am really liking it as just a fun, pick up and throw yoyo.
I etched it with hard throws, not picking knots. I honestly hardly ever get knots to pick on my fixies. I guess I just don’t push the boundries enough with my tricks on them like I do with my metals, which I seem to pick knots on a very regular basis lol.
I have burned a groove in a No Jive 3 in 1 axle.
I could smell it even before I looked.
So do any of you wood heads make your own string?
I make my own string for my Non-Responsive Yoyo’s, but I have not really thought about Cotton.
I did try out a Silk string on a No Jive 3 in 1, but I had made it a bit thin. It needed a Bind.
I have a Glued Wood yoyo that I often have to pick knots out of.
I don’t get knots in my Take apart Wood yoyos. Typical!
I never have to take apart my metals to get knots out. I always use a toothpick when I can, but I get knots in my Baldwin that are impossible even with an assortment of surgical equipment at my disposal. I have never encountered knots like this on my metals. Different strokes for different strokes, kinda like how I prefer to play my Baldwin with poly string.
