I’ve been applying various types of stain to wood since I was about 12, and while I have a passion for working w/wood, i don’t see it deserving a tutorial. I don’t see how it would last more than 60 seconds, including opening the can. Wipe it on, let it set a bit, wipe it off, rub it dry. But that’s just my minimalist nature I guess.
I refinished and antiqued several pieces of furniture this summer. I had no idea how to apply stain before I started or whether certain techniques would give different results, etc. I looked up several tutorials on it.
My Proyo Roadster - 3 coats of Watco walnut danish oil stain, 2 coats of clear poly rubbed lightly with 0000 steel wool. The oil stain was applied with a cloth on this one.
Jamboo definitely looks great!! I own a few, and they have that dry ashy look to them. Is there something I can use that will not change the color of it, but will add a bit of moisture and sheen to it? I understand that a “stain” is used to modify the color. Is that understanding correct?
I used Watco clear oil on those, then a coat of clear poly. As you can see it will darken it up a small amount. A coat of clear poly w/o the oil will work too. It will cause the wood to darken a bit also. Most any finish will do that.
Never used it. My understanding is that the only difference with oil used on cutting boards is that it’s food safe. Other than that it works pretty much the same with similar results.
How does the poly affect the feel of the wood, does it feel harder, or the same? Any opinion on Old English products for this? I have that around the house already. I have a bit leftover from another project.
Poly will feel like any varnished surface. It’s a polyurethane varnish. Never used Old English products though from looking at their website it appears that they make furniture polish products, which are not the same as finishing products such as stains or varnish.
I love wooden yoyos. I grew up on Tom Kuhn’s and at one time had well over 15 SF era TK’s. I sold all but one (my original 3 in 1) This new EH looks great!! Ed how is it pronounced though? Is it just saying the letters EH or is it more like Ehh? Did you sign the card that comes with the throw?
Annnnnnd, they’re gone. Man that was fast! I would say there was a pretty good amount of interest in them lol. Glad I secured mine earlier, I would have been sad to miss out on this ALOT more so than I was that I wasn’t able to snag a mystery box.
