Why Do The Posts In The Mailday Thread Get More Attention Than The Posts In The Tricks Thread?

Well done, I love the art work.

Throwing is more important to me than collecting by many orders of magnitude.

We’re not on “bad terms”, I save that for my enemies. If I ever see you at a contest (I’m going to try to attend Nationals this year) I’ll introduce myself to you. I bet we’d get along just fine.

I wasn’t aware that I made an appeal at all!
I take integrity VERY seriously.

Harsh feedback, but I’m taking it in the nose. You bring up good points. I will take them into consideration.

Thank you.

You used to hate on organic lovers, tried a few, and like them now. I’d venture to bet that you would never choose one to casually play with even if you have noticed a few characteristics that might be appealing.

As for your integrity, I don’t doubt it. Your opinions come out very strong and I know that you are sincere about it. I just don’t buy that you love organics, lol

Just being honest in a slightly weaponized way (my critique still stands). This is how us “collectors” who actually care about yoyoing feel when we get grouped into being ‘just collectors’. I care much more about actually playing with yoyos than collecting them, and I imagine most of us are the same. Im beyond being stupidly optimistic (ie @Theycallmecotton: I bet your forward pass is UNIQUE and AMAZING) about my yoyo skills and just want to enjoy my hobby. I don’t need to justify having better yoyos than someone with better skills than me.

Yes. I imagine so. Let nobody be confused.

Total side note, but that’s not quite fair. I’ve mentioned it a few times, well before my signature yo-yo: the a/rt furn is one of my favorites. I also shelled out the money for an RSO bowl mini. (It wasn’t my vibe, but that’s besides the point).

I also searched like a madman for a specific Yomega Ooch for quite some time.

I’m currently keeping an eye out for an assassin.

No, I genuinely like to play with many organics. And I have been posting about that well before any whiff of a signature.

There was not a half assed attempt to appeal to my organic dudes. I would personally consider that to be a lapse in integrity.

Yo-yo is a solitary activity. True, we can yo-yo together; but most yo-yo time is spent by ourselves, playing the way pleases us most. I think that is why there is such a diversity in how we engage in the yo-yo experience.

Comparing how and why we all play yo-yo seems like a silly thing to do. We do it because it makes us happy. How we achieve this seems irrelevant.

As for the original question; it seems fairly obvious to me. It is much easier and less time consuming to look at a bunch of pictures than to watch multiple videos.

Comments like this aren’t a good representation of what are trying to say then:

Your disdain is clear. I don’t hate you for it, but your bias is still evident.

@eternalmetal
Tbh I’m not sure what to say at this point, besides reiterating that I personally have been enjoying organic yoyos for over a year at this point, predating any editions to my name. I’m not sure that calling my mentions of this half assed marketing is really fair.

I also meant no disdain in that particular comment. But I could have been much more careful to make that clear. I will be more careful about that in the future. My fault entirely.

HOWEVER, as I said, I’ll concede pretty much everything else you said. It’s rather harsh, but I recognize their validity.

You are probably in the right on most accounts. Full concession.

I think I’m going to leave this thread here, unless someone wants to discuss something specifically with me. Anyone, please PM me if you’d like to discuss something, I am more than open to your feedback.

Thanks everyone, and have a great weekend.

Show off your yoyo tricks. Maybe someone will like it. Show off your yoyos. Maybe someone will like it.

Seeing as the discussion here largely seems to have come to a head, I’d like to move on to a new topic - why do the posts in the “Why Do The Posts In The Mailday Thread Get More Attention Than The Posts In The Tricks Thread?” thread get more attention than the posts in my BST thread?

I don’t have to have money.

Has anyone tried to pull in new eyes to the forum. So many times people post on the forum- check out my IG or youtube. But does anyone say, hey check out yye forum for more trick discussions on their youtube and IG? Could we pull in new people more focused on tricks?

Gotta disagree here. I remember even back to Dave’s skill toys or the yoyonation forums

Collection threads were always the most popular

Good point, I’m going to start shouting it out

Quicker to look at pictures than watch a video. Plus some videos are blocked at jobs. Not a major reason, I admit.

Are you certain that those you consider casual throwers are indeed just that? Could it be that many of those “casual throwers,” actually are indeed progressing at their own rate, refining skills, and growing? Might they possibly have goals they have been working towards and never reached before horizontal and meta, and choose to stay on path to their original destination? Is it possible that the thought of adding more goals just doesn’t seem practical to throwers that currently find only five minutes here, ten minutes there to practice? Maybe, just maybe they are exactly as you have categorized them.

Just saying, it’s impossible to fully understand anyone’s position without lengthy typing sessions on a forum. I’d rather yoyo!

it’s quicker/easier to buy a yo-yo than to learn a trick.
it’s quicker/easier to photograph a yo-yo than to film a trick.
it’s quicker/easier to view a photo than to watch a trick.

doesn’t make collecting better or worse, nor does it imply that the people in the mailday thread aren’t also interested/active in the tricks thread or in throwing in general.

yo-yoing’s multifaceted nature is responsible for its universal appeal.

Great question. I’m surprised to say it but I prefer to see new yo-yos versus tricks that have been done on video before. If I’m trying to learn something new I prefer short videos with small trick elements that I don’t know yet because I’m not good enough to do long tech combos. If someone is just doing a different combination of the same tricks I know or could see in a competition video, then I’ll watch competitions where it’s set to music and it’s performed by the best of the best. This is just my general preference. That being said, you are better than most and I usually watch your videos on YouTube. Unboxing videos and mail day pics is just mindless stuff to skim through when I’m chilling and watching tv. Which is what I use this forum for most. Thank you for asking a difficult question. And keep up the amazing work.

I have a theory:

We are all being pulled toward collecting because the internet is making us subliminally buy, buy, buy more yo-yos by seeing others “joy of the purchase” or the bright colors. Maybe something embedded in the content or invisible secret font.

" I’ll speak
To the masses throughout the media
And if you got anything to say to me
You can say it with cash

'Cause I got the trash and you got the cash
So baby we should get along fine
So give me all your money 'cause I know you think I’m funny
Can’t you hear me laughing, can’t you see me smile

I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the yo-yo"

I know I have inadvertently started a small collection since I started reading the forum content. Proof enough?

Maybe that’s the “trick”…
