Honestly, looking at pictures of artfully shot yoyos and commenting on yoyo feel and setups is just much more forum friendly than videos. I even like watching short clips on Reddit, but on a forum, id rather scroll text and pics. It’s funny, I avoid yoyo pics on Reddit but go to the videos, but on here I gravitate to pics and discussions about yoyos. I never really got much into instagram (never signed up), but it seems like a lot of people discuss tricks there. Places online don’t need to be what they aren’t if other places work just fine.
There seems to be an inherent belief that everyone cumulatively consumes multiple forms of social media, thus broadening the scope of the media you see and interact with.
I’m here to say not all of us use social media. I dont have instagram, facebook, twitter, really any of it. Do I feel left out when theres a instagram giveaway? Or a BST thats more active on facebook? Not really any more, especially when you’re tying engagement to the value of the post.
A forums method of engagement is at least more text driven, which is incredibly refreshing compared to preying on short attention spans with clips, or using FOMO with social media “clout” to make something relevant.
This is a very long winded way of saying the mix of different discussions, giveaways, pictures, and video all in a hodgepodge make for a very balanced experience, an experience that can easily be tainted by social media algorithms. I think that the variety here is what keeps a lot of people around. Make a post and people see it, and a discussion you may be interested in is always available for your own personal addition. The media side of things is easily consumed, but it is usually followed by discussion, something that can not always be said by a feed that encourages a simple “like” and then move on and forget about it.
Agreed, I have TikTok and Facebook, but it is not enjoyable to me. My joy is here, even if posting tricks take a backseat, I’ll just watch myself do tricks in real life and the occasional stuff that pops up here.
