Why do some in BST request F&F only?

If someone is willing to cover the fees for G&S why does it matter? I feel like I’m missing part of the reasoning here.

wait sorry, can you explain what F&F is to those that don’t know? (me lol)

F&F is a payment via paypal
No fees to pay but also means no buyer protection.

G&S is a payment via paypal
It has fees to pay depending on the recivers location and the buyer is protected

Good and Services = G&S
Friends and Family = F&F

If you do a lot of transactions with PayPal - there was a change last year maybe - that they report the G&S transactions and it becomes taxable income. So while G&S protects the buyer - and costs the seller an additional 3-4% (which is why many who will accept G&S ask for that adder) it could still be reported as taxable income to them if they sell a lot. I think it’s like $600 a year - so not much before you hit that and PayPal reports it to the IRS (because they have to).

Over 2500 on PayPal you will have to pay taxes . Starting 2026 over 600$ in sales will require you to file it on your taxes. PayPal will send tax forms if you pass those amounts. So that’s y people should get their rep check pages so in future you can avoid the taxes

How much are the hypothetical taxes. Like, in 2026, if I sell $1000 in yoyos, how much am I paying to the govt come tax time?

Agreed it shouldn’t be an issue but usually it’s due to some kind of fraudulent reason, either cheating the buyer/trader or tax evasion.

Depends on whether you made a profit on the sales.

Sell $1,000 in yoyo’s that you originally paid $1,500 for? No tax due.

Sell $1,000 in yoyo’s that you originally paid $500 for? You’ll owe taxes on the $500 gain. How much those taxes are depends on your own tax rate and how long you owned the items.

I imagine for the large majority of people here, they’re losing money on sales, maybe breaking even at best.

Thank you for all the responses, I figured it was a tax issue. Appreciate it!

Thank you. Very helpful. I doubt my turbo tax has a place for me to get specific with things, so I’m probably gonna regulate myself to the 600 cap

You’ll get a 1099-K from PayPal if you exceed the limit. I don’t use Turbotax but I’m certain they have a place for you to fill out info from that filing.

Anyone who sells a lot on eBay, Etsy, etc. gets the same thing.

Do you knowing it is automatically sent out or something you have to specifically request

You should get an email notification from the payment services or marketplaces you use if they have one for you.

But you could always check for yourself around late January each year, all of these sites have a tax documents page for your account.

Thank you very much for the heads up on this

As someone who tracks all of his purchases and sales it can kind of be a pain. I just throw everything in a google sheet but trade deals make it a little weird.

Yeah it is weird.
I feel the same when people only want to ship conus.

I kind of get that, the header in the BST forum says price should include shipping. Shipping within your country versus to different continent can be a big price difference
