MK1 looks really cool
What is an appropriate way to react to this?
Ill justā¦
Setting aside the logistical thundercloud of trying to define what OFF-ROAD is and whether I should be a sponsor-er more than a sponsor-ee, I feel compelled to dive into this for the sole reason that I enjoy thought exercises. Theyāre fun.
When I consider sponsorship I think of it as an other-way-around thing. I am loyal, passionate, and loud. Which companies excite me, are worth my time and loyalty, and how can I put myself to work for them?
I loved Smashing. Whether an actual member of an honorary member or whatever I was, they were worth it. Jordan is a phenomenal yo-yo designer and heād reach across the globe to sponsor even state-level contests he couldnāt attend. Heād send free yo-yos to excited newbies falling in love with the hobby. Heād mentor anyone and everyone on yo-yo design. He put together beautiful videos for players that werenāt on his team, just because he could and the community would enjoy them.
If I were to pursue another team, Iād first hit up G Squared. I consider Jake to be a friend and I enjoy watching him succeed. Helping him continue to succeed wouldnāt feel like an obligation; Iād do what I could because of course I would. As a professional heās consistent, his marketing is great, and his product is fantastic. He also gives back a lot ā even as I write this heās running the throwers showdown and the 10 days of Christmas giveaways.
Iād also be thrilled to work with CLYW. I love their style, their marketing, the whole āoutdoors and animalsā thing they have going on, and of course their yo-yos. They also have a fantastic team and it would be a privilege to be a part of it. I admittedly have no idea what I could offer them, though. Theyāre hot in the competitive scene, their online presence is solid, and they certainly donāt need a cheerleader. Also, there might be a team-fit issue as theyāre all young and hip whereas I am obscenely old and gross.
As for string sponsorships, my favorite is Airetic and I pack those with my Hand Rovers, but I like the freedom of supporting all the boutique folks. Airetic might be the most comfy in the Texas heat, but Hallmark canāt touch the warm fuzzies that come with every pack of Zipline.
kyle, this is such a lovely writeup. your descriptions for @chaosgow and @G2_Jake are spot on.
much <3 to these two guys, including yourself
YoYoWorkshop was my dream for the longest time, and it was amazing when they picked me up, but of course they went out of business recently. Right now, Iād love to get on Sengoku, but the competition is so rough.
Lot of talent out there on Instagram
your mom.
You were a part of Smashing to me. You influenced decisions on a fundamental level with your advice and ideas. Thatās why youāre still on the team page.
Your kind words still make me feel good. Too kind, thank you Kyle <3
I have been thinking of sponsorship a lot lately because when I get my string brand up and running I would like to sponsor someone who would really want it and someone who would be a great team member
iām looking forward to seeing who you sponsor!
wolfyoyoworks by far, i really wanna try the amarok
Thanks
Also, I would love to be sponsored by yoyorecreation. I just love the stargeyser. I want one sooooo bad.
Mk1, @ReticNeil Retic, @unprld, Rain City Skills.
Yuengling. Funyuns. And Speedo. If possible, Iād like to pimp their stuff all at the same time.
Thatās ambitious - and efficient.
@PCaliyoyos and @twitch77 should sponsor me by sending me all their non pink and non green yoyos! That would be coooool! In fact, anyone that would like to sponsor me without requiring more than a thank you would be perfect.
Yep wide a wake in dream land!
Joking aside, sponsorship can change everything for the better or take everything the other direction.
@PCaliyoyos you have a reputation now!
lol only a few non greens left in my collection!
Agreed.
