Who is the GOAT of yoyo?

I would Say That Hiroyuki Suzuki is the Goat. When divisions other than 1a are considered the conversation gets harder, but in terms of 1a it is clear. In the the most popular and competitive style of yoyo, there is no one who comes close to the prestige and dominance of Hiroyuki Suzuki. From 2002 to 2013 he earned a top 4 placement, taking home the title 4 of those years. No one else has shown that level of dominance in 1a for such an extended period of time.

If we are including all divisions, I would say that Takeshi Matsuura deserves recognition. He has placed in the top 4 in 3 of the 5 main divisions (1A, 3A, and 5A).

If we are talking the most dominant in their respective category, then Shinji Saito in 2a, and Hajime Miura in 3a should be considered.

That being said, Mir Kim’s 1A performance in this year’s world yoyo contest may be the most incredible yoyo competition performance of all time. If he has another 4 years of this level of dominance, he may become the goat.

I’m surprised Hajime isn’t more accepted as the goat. Hes a world champ in 2 divisions, is insanely good at soloham, and has some insane unique 1a

I think soo too, especially when you compare “air-miles” traveled for attending contests all over the Globe, whereas YoYoFactory Ben will always Reign Supreme in my opinion as a GOAT Demonstrator at any contest. I highly doubt any other yoyo demonstrator on this Planet will rack up as many destinations as he has. John Higby is also a very street wise yoyo GOAT, especailly MR. YODEL ART…psychedelic.

Respect~

Hajime Miura is cool!

“Trusted Wuff”?

Are you a furry? XD

I think there’s a lot to be said for being a “founder”.

This is a pattern seen across disciplines. Someone comes around and singlehandedly establishes a great deal in their art. Then, in subsequent generations, others build on that, and make more difficult variations.

Does that make them superior to the creator? I would say no.

One example I would bring up is Baroque violinist Corelli (1653-1713).
He created much of what violin playing is today, and his music was notoriously difficult at the time. He was famous for his skill. But today, there are 10 year old prodigies that play stuff harder than he ever created. Is my town’s local prodigy more “GOATED” that Corelli? Again, I’d say no.

If Corelli was born today, with all his talents, and had someone to teach him the newer and more difficult techniques made since his death, he’d likely be at least as good as other young guns of today.

The same is true for Hiroyuki Suzuki vs. Mir Kim. Hiroyuki made speed play what it is. He was a pioneer of horizontal. Much of the current meta is directly traced back to him.

Creating the baselines to many skills takes YEARS and is incredibly difficult. It’s a process that the new generations can skip entirely, and move on to merely LEARNING the basics, before making their own harder versions.

Now, to Mir Kim’s credit, he will almost certainly end up changing the game himself, pioneering what’s possible with big “banger tricks”. I’m sure he will become a founder type as well.

And then someone (probably not yet born) will come along and make tricks harder than his! And then we’ll having this same discussion, but with Mir Kim as the older generation.

So, my compressed answer: is Mir Kim more GOATED than Hiroyuki?

No, but I’m sure they will be looked back on as two men who should be on anyone’s top 10 list.

In all of Yoyo history, it is Hajime Miura. He has 8 world titles and has only attended worlds 7 times ( confusing, yet true… He has a completely perfect 3a World’s record and is the only person to win a title in two major divisions, and he did them both on the same day.

Edit: of course when I say this he scores -20 at Worlds

hard agree, hajime miura is a better yoyoer than i think anyone else

Shinji Saito did this 4 years in a row - 2a and combined - from 2006 through 2009.

Shinji did this three times in 2A and CB (Combined), in 2006, 2007, and 2009.

Wins don’t matter friends. The GOAT yoyoer is the one you see in the mirror.

what is the combined division?

also looks like he got 2nd in 2008, but that really doesn’t diminish this amazing achievement. pretty incredible to be that dominant.

You say this. But it took me 3 months to learn the trapeze

Your your the greatest for finally figuring it out

It also took me a long time to learn several very basic YoYo elements and I am still learning
