In my experience, silicone lasts for months.
Mine does not. Just to point out, the silicone that I got, wears out fast. But then again, I’m just using something I got at a paint store that says silicone on the tube.
That should work. What string are you using? And did you let it cure long enough?

You probably need to break it in a little bit, that’s all.
