I found someone on the page who bought a wooden yoyo from boise woodworks and it’s a beautiful yoyo. I’d like to add a wooden yoyo to my collection and wondering what you all have
I have a lot of fixed axle yoyos and the Legend Wing is still a favorite, you don’t have to spend Boutique Money

Yeah, I wasn’t planning on spending a lot. The ones on that Boise woodworks they’re only like $38 and the designs are sick. I just didn’t know how wooden fixed axle yo-yo’s play. It’s just weird how they would play without a bearing
I’m definitely trying to find one that’s more like it’ll sleep but also responsive. I’m not looking for a fully unresponsive
Taking account the feelings you’ve expressed in the past I feel like you’ll prefer a heavier wood. The Legend Wing is very light, so take that into consideration. I feel like one of the best deals going on a classic style laminate is the Tom Kuhn Clean Tangerine. It’s almost identical to the older BC laminates, plays fantastic, still made by BC, and very nicely priced. Buy Clean Tangerine Classic Laminated Wood Yo-Yo Online ( )
You have any videos of you using them? Also, I’ve heard that the strings don’t last long. Thoughts on how long your strings last? I really like the Boise stuff. Workmanship is really nice but I’m open to other brands
Awesome, I’ll check it out
The bearings were added to the old designs like these to make them spin longer. To make them “less” responsive. The friction of the string on the axle and walls creates the response. As a result these will burn through strings much faster. Also cotton string is what’s recommended on fixed axle as well.
If you can find a deal on a used TK NoJive 3in1, the are classic.
The major focal point in that statement being the “if”. ![]()
You just need cotton string. My strings last pretty well. I like zipline cotton. I don’t have any videos, but they play similar to a fixed axel butterfly. Best place to start learning the basics is on a fixed axel. That’s where I started
Recommend you use cotton strings, poly strings melt due to friction of the wood axle
I did read that and I do have a bunch of cotton string. I was actually giving about 75 cotton strings so right now I have plenty of strings that are just sitting here.
I also find the wooden stuff to be beautiful. All the modern metal yoyos kind of all look the same and the same colors but the wooden ones I’ve seen are crafted in crazy detail
The Mexican Bocote is beautiful that I just found.
Just find something that looks interesting and within your budget. Also have the expectation that it will only have 30sec of spin at best. You’ll have to learn to Regen
30 seconds?! What am I doing wrong?? ![]()
I guess you are not throwing Heaters
You have to stop being afraid that it’s going to come back and smash you in the face. Throw that thing like you’re trying to make a crater in the ground with it… you’ll get your 30 seconds of spin. ![]()
