What trick are you working on?

I’m working on 5a hold, catch, and return. I feel like a complete novice who picked up a yoyo yesterday…

Feel like I skipped ahead with the Eli hops, boingy boing, GT and such…went back to work on stuff I skipped over. Currently working on Cold Fusion. This is actually the easiest way I’ve been able to get into 1.5 mount so far, so that’s a plus!

Found my grind for the next few days of self isolation:

lots of new stuff I haven’t tried…if I learn the full thing, awesome! Chances are though that I’ll get halfway through, start playing with certain elements and build off of that merely using this as a source of inspiration.

I gave up Plastic Whip a year ago. I am now determined to get it down 9 out of 10 times by the time This Thing is over. I got it twice in the last hour but was so surprised I got the whip wrapped properly I froze and forgot what to do. I alway want to give up as I learn a trick and tell myself it’s a stupid, worthless trick that’s good for nothing and a month later I am very smooth with it and working it into my frontstyle combo. Seriously - Ripcord and Wormhole (my last 2 tricks) took me 2 1/2 - 3 wks. to get down and fine tune.

Ripcord was my first string trick lol. not even Trapeze or anything.

I’m currently working on Cold Fusion. I get about halfway through and then I am lost. Only started on it last night, so it’s a work in progress.

Boingy-boing is the bane of my existence. Been trying that one for 2 months now and I still can’t get it right.

This trick looks so obnoxious and perverse that I refuse to even attempt to try it. I watch the few frontstyle tutorials available and cringe when the person puts this trick in a combo. It looks absurd, ludicrous, and ridiculous. I would rather give up throwing than learn to do this trick but kudos to the people that tackled it and succeeded.

Ha! Your disdain for the trick is so palpable! I’m on the opposite end, where I think it looks pretty cool. I keep trying it here and there, but with no luck. To be fair, I haven’t focused on getting it right in weeks as I’ve moved onto other things.

Try keeping your thumb in line with the yoyo and having your pointer finger slightly more to the outside.

Thank you for the tips! I do screen captures of tutorials to refer to as well as watching the vids over and over.

So, this is where I am at on Cold Fusion. I THINK I have all the parts in place and just need to work on smoothing it out. Or am I doing something wrong? Let me know! Thanks in advance for the help.

That looks great!

Thanks, @ChrisFrancz. Kinda painful to watch because I can see myself thinking for each move. But good to know the parts are there!

Cold Fusion is beyond my pay grade so it was fascinating to me. What yoyo is that? It looks and sounds plastic…

You’re right - it’s a Skyva. I really want to play with my new toy, but I learned very quickly to not have the nicer stuff out when I am watching our 2 year-old…

EDIT: Case in point, I just got mugged by the brat as I started to work on it again…

Decided to build off of what I learned the other day… It’s a strange mashup of “classic yuuki concepts” and @MrYoyoThrower’s “picking up the change” chopsticks trick he published on Youtube the other day. It has definitely something to get used to doing a chopstick on my throw hand…but something satisfying about it. Anywho, here’s my rough trick that I’ve been grinding away at.
