That’s exactly why I don’t like the response bump. It makes the walls non existent, and being high/midwalled is one of the traits I personally want in an organic. The cloudberry to me plays like a soft H shape that just has very little rimweight. So it’s still not particularly stable or forgiving even though it has the low walls. I think I’d like the Stormberry design a lot more, because I do actually enjoy soft H shapes a lot, except when they’re trying to be stable and powerful, and not just floaty and fast.
The response bump on certain organics I’ve tried did bother me. I’m not at the point where I can notice all of the things in play that you’re talking about, but it felt like the string would click as it slid into the center if it hit that protrusion on some yo-yos. I agree with @Isaac that the MMC (actually the MCMO in my case) doesn’t have that problem.
That makes sense! Yeah if you want high walled stuff a response bump that is that pronounced isnt the way to go.
This is the only shutter I purchased other than wide angle… what makes JDS better to you?
P.S. I am better at buying yo-yos than using them…
Same here!
As to why I like the JDS Shutter more, it’s a little hard to answer. The last time I threw a Shutter was about a year before I got the JDS in a YYF mystery pack (the one that included the IQ - which is excellent, BTW).
At the time I was definitely veering away from H-shapes. I just didn’t like them, they seemed to have too much presence on the string, very planar movements, very stable, etc. I tended more toward organic shapes, for the float and the easier plane shifts.
Trying the JDS Shutter, it feels lighter than what I remember and easier to shift the plane.
All that being said, it’s been a year. I could have just gotten better as a yoyoer, my tastes might be changing again, or, heck, I could have found better string since then, all of which impact my enjoyment of a throw.
I’ll certainly never disparage the capability of the standard Shutter, it’s an excellent yoyo. At the time I tried it, I just didn’t click with it, and I did click with the JDS way more.
Loop 720. ; I have no idea how Shu takada manages to use, and enjoy these. These yoyos only sleep for a second, making wrap tricks impossible. These yoyos don’t work as loopers very well either. I thought I was bad at 2a until I tried the C3yoyodesign initiators.
Why did you delete my post about terrible yoyos and show up here? Honest Question
Uh oh, you triggered the Robin.
He’s going to find you now, destroy your organic yoyos, and force you to learn horizontal.
Fair question. We try to keep super negative threads off the forum. The one we’re posting in walks the fine line of what’s ok. The one in question with “terrible yo-yos” in the title does not.
I’m not too keen on competition bimetals. I’ve tried these, and sold/traded every one before I just decided to stop buying them.
Yoyofriends Hummingbird
SF Motive
YoyoRecreation Overdrive Draupnir
Circle City P40 Warhawk
Several C3 throws
The only exception I’ve found is the delrin/SS hybrid, AceYo XIN.
the manatee. i can’t speak to how popular it is, but that sea cow rubbed me the wrong way.
The fizz yo-yo…. The guy on yo-yo tricks website said it is an excellent yo-yo…. Negative!
Come on… throwing shade on The Fizz? It’s great for what it is. It’s kind of a miracle of material engineering to have plastic fingers that flex outward enough with spin to help it sleep and then help grab when it slows down and it’s time to return. I think that throw is decent training wheels for unresponsive play. Not sure why, but I think it’s more relatable to actual yoyoing than the brain (even though the action that makes them work isn’t that different really).
Honestly legendary terrarian just felt too light I loved the way it felt from the grooves though
My fizz dies almost instantly. Even with thinner string.
You will get longer spin if you misalign the holes in the yoyo. This is a visual indicator of response. Offset the holes and the effective gap grows as the response will be less.
Source: my name is on the patent.
If it is sold as “for competition” I’m almost certin I won’t like it.
If you get a chance, try an IQ. For me it weirdly overlaps two very different worlds of yoyo.
The fizz is a great beginner yo-yo I tell all of my friends who want to get into yo-yoing to get one and they are progressing very well
I thought I would love the One Drop Intro. Minimalist organic design that seemed like a guaranteed winner, but just felt kind of lifeless.
