I had the opposite problem lol, I had been trimming my strings to the old “tie the loop at your belly button” method. I was really struggling with the first step of Rancid Milk, just couldn’t get it to land without hitting my hands. I ended up trying a really long string a few days later (I don’t exactly remember why…) and it just clicked!
There is for sure a happy medium to everyone’s “perfect” length, and I think I found mine at 3 fingers above the belly button, or somewhere between my sternum and Betty button.
Not yo-yos fault, but man I hate when I get hand or finger injuries in general, but it’s especially annoying now-a-days…
Finger got pulled into the bench wire wheel when my glove caught the bristles, immediate friction burn. Just glad it didn’t tear the pad off my finger.
The second photo is a healed burn from a bit of slag when using a plasma cutter. Landed between the tips of my middle and ring and burnt right thru the glove and got both fingers, man was that annoying…
many small-scale brand lack design skill to implement this schmoove without completely gutting the centerweight and having an very empty/hollow/poorly designed yoyo that feel cheap
This could just be me being newer, but there seems to always be this huge skill jump in video lessons from simple things like “Rock the baby, walk the dog” to a “simple speed combo” that assumes I’ve already learned a huge number of other things. Like…. bruh, there HAS to be more steps between these two.
I would imagine their stuff is the best from sheer numbers alone, but there my issue is their app not being very compatable, and the channel being just a cluster after all these years. lol I do use a lot of their videos though overall, but I’m expecting that same sort of jump to happen eventually even still.
There are a lot of steps in between these things for sure lol. I’d say most basic rail/speed combos are probably at “Expert” level based on how the YYE learn section breaks things down (or “advanced” on the SkillAddicts app). So you can look at those two resources to find a whole bunch of beginner and intermediate steps that should make the transition easier.
Isn’t SkillAddicts the app that makes you post videos of yourself and wait for others to “verify” it? If so, I tried that one and got irritated with how often I had to stop and wait. lol May suck it up and get back on though. I’m an old man (33) and am short on life time to learn here lol
I use SkillAddicts. The tutorials are pretty good. I’ve grinded enough on it that I rarely post anymore. II mostly mess around and make intentional deviations from tricks to see where it takes me. They only things I post are fun combos and elements I’ve discovered, with the occasional tutorial.
It is yeah, you only need to do up to first throw before you can access all the tutorials on the app though. And you don’t have to record and verify a trick that you learn if you don’t want, you could just use the tutorials to learn and never bother to upload.
