What is the best yoyo brand?

Respect to yyj

Kinda off topic but I been thinking about this for a couple days haha. Man, someone listed some yoyojams a few days ago brand new in the box on eBay that went for some great prices. Unique US National models too. I seen them just as they were ending but my money is kind of tight lately. It hurt to not be able to buy them. I been wanting to get my hands on some yoyojams.

The brand that gets you excited about yoyos is the best brand

So like, all of them! I am local to yoyofactory so I’d say they’re probably my favorite just because I can drive a short distance and go say hi and pick up supplies and possibly yoyos directly from the yoyofactory home base. It’s always a pleasure to visit them.

ZGRT is the best in terms of variety / innovation, at least for me.

But my favorite is SUS Yoyo Mechanics. So many of their collaboration throws look amazing, whether bimetal or monometal.

In my opinion and experience, there isn’t really a best brand other than whatever puts a smile on your face when you’re throwing. There’s a lot of great designs out there in different flavors. I own many brands of throws and I like them all!

As others have already said, there are many good manufacturers that release a lot of great yoyos. But it’s unlikely that you’ll ever get a consensus that company A is the best or yoyo B is the best - there are way too many to select from, most people don’t have experience with all companies and every one of their yoyos, everyone has their own preferences, etc. And perhaps most importantly, the “best” is subjective and depends on what your goals are. The best company and yoyo will be different if you’re competing in a high-level competition versus just having a chill throwing session.

But with that out of the way, I have more Yoyo Factory yoyos than any other brand. While the sheer number of yoyos doesn’t necessarily equate to the best company, it indicates that I really like a lot of their yoyos. That number is also high because they’ve released a LOT of yoyos, far more a smaller boutique brand, for example. As someone that’s still somewhat new to the yoyo community, it strikes me that Yoyo Factory is also a big enough company that they can afford to have fun with designs and release more “experimental” yoyos. Maybe that’s completely wrong, but they’ve released all kinds of different yoyos, including beginner plastics, performance plastics, woods, mono metals, bimetals, organics, performance, loopers, big yoyos, small yoyos, off-string yoyos, cheap yoyos under $10, expensive titanium yoyos for hundreds of dollars, and the list goes on. They may not all be best-in-class, but I like that they always seem to have a great yoyo for whatever style (or even trick; I’m looking at you, DNA) you’re into.

But there are a few other companies that I really like which are much smaller and have only released a small number of yoyos in the last couple of years. What they lack in quantity they more than make up for in quality. They may only release a couple of yoyos every year, but they’re usually fantastic, and, depending on the company, their past releases pretty much guarantee that I’ll like their latest offering.

S: G2, One Drop MOnkey finger, YoYoJam
A: Yoyofriends, Retic, Throwing Sideways, YoYorecreation, Old Clyw, Zero Gravity
B: Dressel Designs, Rain city skills, Atmos, New Clyw, Good Life
C: Yyofactory, Duncan, C3, TopYo

Off top my head if I had to tier what companies I can think of!

Not into the whole “best” brand thing, cause I feel like everything is just personal preference. At the same time shocked to see no one mention ILYY in this thread.

I’m surprised, normally these type of posts bother me.

In the past, these threads seem to get loaded with brands that are sold out on YoyoExpert and other sites that shall not be named.

I always think about the new person who finds this forum and are wanting to upgrade their Imperial/Butterfly XT/Whip. Only to see a bunch brands being raved about then not being able to click and buy any of them.

Now that my 2 cents/Unpopular opinion is out of the way.

I feel it’s between Duncan and YoYoFactory. I’m not naive. Are there other brands that have models that blow Duncan and YYF out of the water? You bet.

Until these other brands get their names in front of parents who will randomly buy without thinking when their child asks “Can I get this?” or when Grandma grabs random stocking stuffers. My needle is pointing to Duncan and YoYoFactory.

Someone on here is also selling old stock YYJ. I actually got a dark magic from him. Loads of fun.

Out of curiosity, what is the distinction between Old CLYW and New CLYW?

Without getting into a long winded reply… I feel that quality has gone down ever so slightly… still a great brand though
