I just saw that!

Made a post saying he met with a kkk member and then went on to say yoyoing connects us all or something to that effect.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez… Some connections are best not made lol.

the woke mob got him

I don’t think it had anything to do with a so-called woke mob. It seems more like showing something provocative, and not supplying context. At least that what I got from his explanation.

a tl;dr

  1. Evan and Angelo make posts with KKK members
  2. People get pissed and call them out
  3. Evan deletes his posts, Angelo deletes most of them
  4. Evan puts out some vids trying to justify it as having a tough conversation rather than a social media stunt
  5. Adrian Velez messages Ben about it, and Ben makes a lynching joke in response to Adrian’s advice on what should be done (my understanding is he made the joke without knowing specifically what evan/angelo had done)
  6. Ben figures out what Evan and Angelo did, why it was so wrong, and why the lynching joke was terrible, etc, apologizes for it in a discord server

few days later (today) Evan goes live on instagram to apologize for it, …talks a lot… in circles for a while, you can watch the whole thing here for now:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CtxuEAlo6u8/

I didn’t get to see the whole thing (joined about halfway through), but the salient point he makes near the end is roughly “i wanted to shine light on racism by understanding why people are racist”, though he says a LOT of other things in the video such as “in my opinion the guy from the KKK wasn’t racist”, generally blamed cancel culture, and that he felt that his heart was in the right place. Ultimately he didn’t really take responsibility or apologize for it, and was more… upset at the effects that it has had. Skim through it.

Then he got dropped live:

If you want my opinion, deserved, especially with the branding that YYF wants to preserve. All he had to do was admit that he messed up, denounce what he did, and move on, but instead we got… whatever that rant was.

Does this mean we get an Edge line liquidation sale and I can cop an Edge 2022 for 50% off :skull::skull::skull:

Wow! I am kind of surprised. Was a big fan. I guess I’m out like like with the Art drama. To bad i posted my edge collection last week. He did have a few good yoyos but they where getting pretty repetitive, expensive and less impressive with each one. I’m glad yyf didn’t hesitate to do the right thing…
are they dropping angelo as well? Anyone know how he was involved?

lmao 10 bucks says evan didnt want to be pro anymore and knew the only way out was to get cancelled

I’ll take your 10 bucks! There’s no way anyone would go through that to quit a job!

Im gonna wait and see. It seems more of a bone-head move than a racist one.

No news on Angelo yet, Ben made it sound like YYF was waiting to see how the players handled it before they did anything, and I guess this means Evan failed.

Sounds like Evan needs to mature a bit and learn to take accountability for his actions even if he feels he isn’t wrong. The biggest professional lesson I’ve learned in my life is perception is reality. Making light of a sensitive topic and then refusing to apologize and move on owning the mistake is probably the most costly mistake to make.

Evan and Angelo aren’t bad guys from what I can tell just had some really dumb idea and instead of thinking about how it would be received they put it out there. Angelo at least had the common sense to stay quite and let it blow over. Evan… well we saw the ranting ramble half apology live….

I was just thinking this haha. I don’t know what Evan did exactly but he really seems like a solid person. From the hours of videos and lives I have seen of him he seems like one of the most positive people in the yoyo community. It just doesn’t make sense to me exactly how this is going on to someone who I honestly have admired. I only read the TLDR but it just seems like a misunderstanding and people are overreacting but maybe I’m wrong.

If anyone needs to clear their conscious completely and complete the cancel, I’d be more than happy helping anyone dispose of their edge.

Angelo isn’t on YYF, he just collab’d with them for the Godspeed.

Honestly (I’m gonna get cancelled next for this probably) Evan from the live seemed like he never experienced overt racism. He has some movie idea of what a racist is and the kkk and all that and doesn’t understand real Deep South racists aren’t yelling threats in the streets they are a bit more subtle in public. Not so much around “like minded” or skin colored individuals.

It feels like they saw the Deep South like an amusement park and the racist a thrill ride and when they didn’t get the overt racism they expected they thought maybe it wasn’t such a big deal. It all seems like they are all very naive and immature.

The reality is racial prejudice is everywhere not just some small infamous town in the south. From the truck company in Georgia with an all white male executive staff and only non white staff being janitorial to the hedge fund in ny with the exact same staffing ratio….

I don’t know if he deserves to be canceled but you can’t have controversy like this as a “star” of YYF. Too many kids in the audience. Even if its blown out of proportion. I get why they dropped him and I think that apology was BS. I also think cancel culture is out of hand. I wish Evan the best tho. Hope he can clean this up. I wonder if he’ll still be competing at worlds? Or if he can?

Is it really cancel culture to make a video painting the KKK as normal people who just like yoyoing too, and then getting dropped by your sponsor because you won’t admit that was a freaking stupid thing to do?

They gave Evan a chance to redeem himself, instead of dropping him from the team immediately. Nobody is cancelling Evan. Evan just got kicked for doing an incredibly stupid thing and proceeding to not apologize or take responsibility for it. Let’s not try to twist this situation into some weirder broad culture commentary.
