What are you spinning?

Another beautiful Ed Davidson players Trompo. This was the culmination of several custom orders until I got exactly what I wanted. I’m in the process of doing that with 4 inch trompos now lol. I’ve had this one for a while but it snap starts and regens almost by itself it’s really amazing

An Indian-Davidson hybrid, I’d like to take both of those for a spin!

I am so far from being able to snap start, might have to get some finger transplants or something.

I made a new tip on the ol lathe for my big Ed Davidson top. This one is solid and is smooth as silk. I just wanted a larger tip. It’s shaped more like the Trompo Grande and the Sara. Feels more forgiving.

I was really hoping to score a BC one day… But you have all of them…:rofl:

I’m not really looking for one, I was kidding. That is a very impressive collection you have. How long has it taken you to collect them all?

Been collecting for years but have recently started finding them when I was going through my old storage. I was gonna sell them but started finding random 1s on ebay and other local stores. So ive been slowly buying them all and restoring them or saving them from sitting in there cases. I wanted to bring life back to these and have always wanted to meet Brad countryman. I know a bit of history about him already and would love to get to know more

I now have over 300+ spin tops and im trying to teach local kids and adults how to play with them at my local farmers market. And kids seem to love them. And adults see them as nostalgic. Very exciting to see spin tops haven’t died after over 100 years of engineering and re-engineering

It’s awesome that you’re doing ALL of those things. And your work is indistinguishable from original condition. In the pictures you displayed of your rebuilds they all just looked brand new to me. Now… with all that being said… I do have a slight correction for you, when you spoke of how glad you are to see that little has changed with tops in 100 years… That number is somewhere close to 5500 years less than reality. The first spin top discovered was in Ur and dates to around 3500-3000 BCE. And Homer described them in The Iliad. The only other toy with such a long history is… :drum: The Yo-yo with its first appearance on a Greek plate from around 400 bc. Pretty darned interesting that these toys are literally… Ancient!!! And if you zoom in… that totally looks like an RBC!! @Glenacius_K

Nice collection, did you get some passed down to you? Some of those are very old.

No. I’ve just been looking on eBay and facebook marketplace. I didn’t mean to be a collector but I just like the way they look and some look interesting like the Siren tops from the 40s and 60s. I’m looking for a pool ball top.

I really like the quicksilver’s. I need to play more, I have been in a “I’ve been way too damn busy” mode to do anything lately!
