OK, new thread, post tricks you are working on learning or polishing or struggling with.
I was working on joker-chokers today, got around 16, which is good for me but I’d like to really master it. Super fun regen.

Still working on a super clean and consistent Boomerang
Working on my opening from a snap. Combo of snap to Sun/bastion to joker but on the last drum beat catch it standing into an over head ATW
Look at the ZING you get off that thing!!! Great form
That was just great teaching last year from Kevin and yourself, very much appreciated to you both
You really have the basics down, you will start to fine tune it now. Once you have the right string length for how you throw, it’s mostly a matter of how well you wind it then getting a feel for how much power you can put behind it.
What would be the next beginner trick you would recommend l?
Most folks learn merry-go-round and crazy eights.
Yeah that one is cool. I do it with a LOT of string lol. Looks huge
Not even a trick but a concept all while working on stop looking like a spaz!!! Ugh. Trying to watch the crown and make it fluid without being painfully obvious that I’m trying too hard …
…
The more I practice this trick the worse I get, so I figure I am either on the verge of a breakthrough or some sort of mental breakdown.
I only started playing last year. Bought a whole bunch of tops though (compulsive buyer - haaa). Just now putting more time into actually learning. I wish there were more videos of tricks - I have looked at a lot of the ones suggested here, but most of them are really old, bad angles, or they go so fast, I can’t tell exactly what they did. Working on regens (sewing machine) and I find it hard to get the top to precess on it’s side quick enough before the string wraps around itself more than one turn when starting it from a boomerang - no issues though if I throw it straight to the ground in front of me and just pop it back up and catch on the string…just need to practice more!
Man it is a little crazy how much I had to practice to learn most spin top tricks, but regens, that took over a year to feel comfortable with. Learning how and when to pull up on the top, and how to control the string after the pull to reset everything, is really tough. I still struggle with string tangles, but I keep at it and I am getting better.
Keep it fun, but don’t give up, you will get it if you keep at it.
See if this helps. Part 1

Sewing machines part 2

And sewing machine part 3, string rejection. Sorry for looking sketchy, I was trying to figure out how to explain it lol

Nice! Appreciate the videos. Definitely will use them to work on my form! You also explain what’s going on, I think that’s what’s missing from a lot of other videos. Thanks!!
Something that had to be explained to me was the importance of holding onto the string with the non-throw hand long enough to get that good pull up on the top. With sewing machine you have to be patient and wait for the top top come around to where the tip is pointing about 7 o’clock , then pull up with the throw hand and release and direct the string away with the n-t-h when you get some slack after the pull up. It’s just a split second, but it’s critical.
That’s an excellent point. When you rip it up with your TH, the NTH is your anchor. Otherwise you’ll just pull it right out with no pop! It’s hard to explain everything that needs to be explained. And it seems like the more advanced the trick, the more it seems like learning 2a yo-yo. It’s all about the feel and how it works for the individual.
