Built a surfskate the other day - something I’ve been wanting to try out for years now but never got to it (as yoyoing kind of took over). Finally pulled the trigger on the components needed to build this thing (a wide deck, and specialized trucks - note the second axis on front truck), totally worth it and so fun to ride!
I got another patient into yoyoing. That’s 3 so far… granted this guy used to throw when he was a kid… maybe didn’t count. We traded a yoyo for a skate board, yoyo for a beginner bored (i think i got a way better deal, but my patient thinks it’s fair and was his idea, i offered to pay him for the board). So next week i start learning how to skateboard!
OK, forgive what I said about the top caps then; that’s great clubs!
I bought some of their light clubs like 15 years ago, was quite happy with them but the batteries are now long dead…
Finally watched the highly-anticipated South Park Pandemic Special. Learned during the episode not to take things seriously though there were many moments that hit home (avoiding any spoilers here…but it’s 2020 so, we’ve lived it).
Aside from that, been one of those days where it’s been an emotional roller coaster of a day…one moment feeling ok…next moment, feeling stressed due to how things are being handled here in CA regarding the industry I work in, and recent learning of further layoffs at Disney - hitting more than just frontline workers, dipping into the skilled/creative staff higher up. I don’t work for Disney but I feel for them…and my fear has been hitting me working in similar field as Disney seems to be the catalyst for the rest of the industry to follow.
Lighter side of things, tested out Super Mario 35. Was a little underwhelmed at first as it somewhat lacks that tension that Tetris 99 has. Came in 2nd several times and when it gets down to the final 5 players, it sure can drag on and on for a while without anything really ramping up the difficulty.
I feel you on this so much. Back in my 20s I was definitely in that camp of taking things so seriously that I couldn’t take a step back and evaluate my positions on things rationally. Nowadays even stuff I’m passionate about I try to take the stance of 1) acknowledging that I can be wrong about something (really helps shore up your reasons for supporting X or Y and understanding why someone else might not) and 2) trying to find the humor in everything even if you’re just laughing so you don’t cry lol.
Def gotta see if that South Park episode is streaming somewhere. Didn’t realize they were doing one on the pandemic (been living under a rock more than usual up until late lol).
After a few days of toxic air and just experiencing a roller coaster of emotions kind of week (politically stressful and overwhelming), I decided to get back out for some air and take my surfskate out for another spin, working on my form to generate speed, keeping a rhythm (and getting some exercise).
