My brother in law runs a park out there on the coast with a lighthouse on it.
Thatās really cool. I think I may have been there beforeābeen a while since Iāve been here at the OBX.
My goals continue as I now decide to combat the quarantine gut (and I want to make myself a little more healthy/less at-risk) - last week I began the trek of putting in some laps on the rollerblades. After 3 laps around my neighborhood (3.5 laps = 1 mile), I was winded and pooped, feet were on fireā¦making foolish mistakes on the final stretch and nearly wiping out. I saw some signs of progress toward the end of the week with less fire in the feet and finished out with 4 laps as I wanted that mile complete.
Today was one of those days where I had a lot going on in my mind as it went down another covid-related rabbit hole of doom. Went out for another skate session and really kicked it up a notch with a 2-mile skate (with a couple minute breather between). Doom & Gloom daydreams changed to feeling like I did something useful and beneficial to my life and health. Now to continue getting myself conditioned, really want to see how it looks by the end of the week.
I hear ya on the āfeet were on fireā comment. Iām always surprised how sore I am after rollerblading, ice skating, or snowboarding when I havenāt done any of them for awhile. I swear those three sports use foot and leg muscles no other sports do.
Iāve felt the āfire feetā too when riding a skateboard, particularly when pumping (or what I can attempt of pumping). Iāve never done skiing or snowboarding but I imagine it all boils down to the same thing - feet tensing up/toes curling while one maintains their balance.
Yep I forgot skateboarding too! Hmmm I wonder if I can still do a kickflip or if Iād fall and injure myselfā¦itās been so long.
My nephews are trying to learn to skateboard so I thought I would show them some tricks. How to ollie and do a pop shove it, they are just starting out. I havent skated since I was probably 16 and Im 31 now. I felt it in my legs the day after lol. Think Iāll stick to yoyo tricks. @rumstove
Rollerblading is such an awesome activity! My two older brothers and I are decent at rollerblading and my dadās school (he is the Headmaster) usually hosts and end of the year skating party but didnāt this year because of Covid. My brothers and I really love doing it and trying to get in front of each other lol. Totally get the āfire were on fireā thing, my feet are usually really sore after doing it.
I used to blade a ton as a kidā¦laps around the block with the neighborhood friends, elementary school skate nights at the local roller rinkā¦Itās really too bad rollerblading/rollerskating is quite a niche hobby (much like yoyoing) these daysā¦in the 90s, rollerblades were the rage.
My friend recently obtained a pair of rollerblades as well, though we havenāt gotten to skate together yet, we are both keeping each other updated on our aches and pains as we get adjusted
Haha, always nice to have a friend with the same hobby.
Recovering from a wipeout today, a hard lesson learned tooā¦I always skated without the helmet, thinking that āIām careful enoughā until today when I hit some form of crack, shot forwardā¦trying to regain my balance, I shot out backward and hit the street on my back flat as a pancakeā¦with my head also making contactā¦Initially I thought that āoh cool, I saved myself!ā but then realized I canāt cheat gravity, and gravity still decided that I was not done falling.
Now looking at a decent helmet as I do want to get back to skating once this soreness wears off. Iām ok, was a little loopy after the initial impact and initially struggled to remember what even happened as I walked back home.
I guess now Iām going to mess with my Pop Art, learned 1 5.0A trick today
Holy hell! Beautiful!
Wow! You lucky guy! That could have been way worse.
Thank you @twitch77
Awesome job!
Thank you!
@NitroBobby916 and @Grendel, the two of you appear to be dangerously fun.
I like it.
My brother is a Marine, Iām sure heāll appreciate the value of the challenge coins.
There was a time, back in my primeā¦
