Not knowing much about Yoyo design - this discussion was of initial interest to me. However, it seems to be sinking into that same old “yoyo-political-correctness” thing.
The original question was: “One more question, out of curiosity, why did you decide to make the rims thinner width-wise?”
The response - I think - assumed that the question referred to wall thickness. I think the question referred to the width of the machined outer rings in diameter.
When viewed facing the bearing profile (>-<) the outer weight rings are thinner. This keeps the same weight distribution - due to the density of the Ti being greater.
But the original question was asking why they were not left the same size? This would, presumably use the dense nature of Ti to advantage and add MORE weight to the outer rim of the yoyo while keeping the same shape people knew by thinning down the wall thickness. This would use the properties of Ti to give the same shape - new playability properties.
I believe the original question assumed you had tried this in your research and found a new shape/weight distribution to be preferable and was curious about the reasons. I was curious also.
Just trying to have a real discussion here.
Oh, and sorry if I have “dug a deeper hole making people think your trying to starts something”
I guess I should just “… shhhh… lololol”
too much rim weight can sometimes be worse than not enough. i didnt make the Ti Walker to be an exact Ti copy of the Sky Walker. if i would have simply done that, the release would be boring and thoughtless.
Thanks. That makes much more sense.
So, was the goal to make a Ti yoyo that plays like the Skywalker?
Or is it fair to say the Ti Skywalker is a different beast?
i think that in my hours of being overworked that my answers have been coming off as annoyed, and for that i apologize. 18 hour days get to you after 3 weeks :-\
as you guys know (or will now know), i am VERY straight forward with my reasoning behind what i do with VsNYYC. here is the FULL scoop on the Ti Walker while answering your questions
if i wanted a Ti Sky Walker i would have named the yoyo the Titanium Sky Walker or some other bland name. the Ti Walker is a different yoyo while maintaining some of the attributes that most people liked about the Sky Walker.
if i were to simply thin out the design to equal weight proportions it may play as a Sky Walker plays, but it would still lack an grind lip and id only be offering a yoyo ive already made in a new material which i feel is pretty lame (my opinion).
to be honest the Ti Walker will more than likely play alot more like the v2 Sky Walker (Grievous) than the current Sky Walker since Grievous is shaped way more towards that than the current Sky Walker.
it plays more solid than the Sky Walker, and after this i believe that a really floaty titanium yoyo is a near impossible feat. even with weight distribution in its favor, there is just something about Ti that keeps it playing solid and calculated. this is NOT a bad thing. just an observation
with that said, it is a completely different animal, though both accent and compliment each other very well
oh dear lord I’m blinded with such awesome, my eyes just can’t take it! BTW you should to a chuck Norris version call it Texas walker or walker ranger eh? get it? you know Texas walker ranger eh, eh?
