Unpopular Yoyo Opinions

Do they really?

I agree. Plastic/Titanium/Magnesium/7068/Stainless/Wood yoyos with superconducting maglev bearings are the NEXT yoyo innovation. Get it spinning 88mph and you’ll jump forward/backward in time depending upon its spin and angle of momentum relative to space time. So be careful with that. Time skipping eli hops will be the next meta, especially when competitors discover they can jump forward in time to observe their score and ranking, and then jump back to revise their routine accordingly. I can only say what I have experienced but I happened to receive 2 A grade ART throws and I would put them at B or C grade vibe. I know Ill vibes is a thing but I usually expect a $100+ throw to play relatively smooth. Also if you ever go in the throwers discord it seems several other people have had QC related issues. I really like how their throws play and usually anything that is made by one drop has good quality so maybe I just got some duds.

Won’t work because of quantum observations changing the outcome. You are gonna have to do the time jump tricks on the fly.

Idk dude, I have one experience with an A-RT that corroborates your idea. Albeit the yoyo was used, but my 420 was advertised as mint with original box. No wear blemishes, dents, or scratches, but the finish looks a tad low-grade level nice (though I think that might just be their style, a grungey ano), and a rather loose fitting bearing seat that makes this yoyo kind of a screamer even with a well lube bearing (the one case in which I’m wondering if I should bother with lubing AND putting back on the seals, which I never do). B-grade level vibe, noisy, but perfectly playable. I actually really like the yoyo, but I’d also call it a B-grade.

I have every A-RT release and have zero issues with any of them. One Drop machined too. Maybe you were very unlucky.

EDIT - I should add that I’m not a vibe-analyst, I pay little attention to the minutia of testing levels of vibe. Out of interest I threw all mine and they’re all good.

A-RT yoyos seem like the stuff of legend. I want one but I highly doubt I will ever have one.

They do seem to be lifted to that of legend. But they’re not. They do have a level of honesty about them. They’re no nonsense, simple designs that work well and are not dominated by a need to be attached to a competition scene.

They are so intensely popular though that buying one is really difficult.

Yes, there is that…

Whenever someone has one up for trade on the BST, it’s only for trading for wants of other unicorney yoyos.

I can make unicorney stuff, some of the most unicorney unresponsives around, buy noone wants em. Lol. I would try to make something to trade for one, but there you go.

In my experience the main difference between flat and concave bearings is that sometimes with flat bearings the string will drift to one side or the other getting really close to the response pads sometimes making it snag more, and centering bearings seem to avoid that issue.

Not true. Some of us love our one of a kind POM Spinworthy yoyos.

They work, the more string in the gap the more complicated it gets.

The first and last of its kind. I can make you another if ever you find you need it.

SpectraPly looks great, but solid wood plays better.

I like solid wood too because it’s more natural. What is it about it that you feel perform a better?
