My wrist, elbow and shoulder are sore from even looking at that thing!
Take care of yourself man, you can really do a lot of long-term damage with something like that.

Made in my hometown. I’ve got an Estwing of my Great Grandpa’s, from about 1929, and a couple from my Grandpa from the '50’s and '60’s. Great products.
Haven’t been over to the factory, but I’ve been told they sell what they consider B Grades there pretty cheap.
It really is a great tool, had it over ten years now. Only gripe it that the handle slips on occasion, but I poured some polyurethane glue down the tang and it seems to be holding so far. Hopefully I’ll be able to hand it down to my son when I hang up my tool belt.
Genuine opinion of mine that’s probably unpopular. I really really don’t like horizontal yoyoing. I know it scores well and that’s why every competitor does it but it just doesn’t look anything like what I think of as “yoyoing”.
One thing about it is that you can’t clearly see the string formations which makes it less interesting.
All I think when I see horizontal is “Wow, the yoyo is so close to their face, I hope they don’t lose a tooth!”
It’s impressive, but just like with speed playing, I can’t comprehend what’s actually going on, therefore it all kind of looks the same.
Definitely easier to appreciate if you do it yourself or understand what’s goin on
It’s like how someone that doesn’t yoyo doesn’t find tech or some slacks that interesting because they don’t know wtf is happening
Is it fun though? Because watching basically any yoyoer other than Gentry looks like they are just powering through it just because it gets clicks. Looks too daunting to be fun to me, but everyone is different.
Ryota Ogi looks like he has a great time when he’s doing horizontal
I think it is fun. I’m not great at it but it still took a good amount of practice to become decent at it. I don’t compete so I put in the work because I thought it was cool to learn and fun to do.
Also while I’m not doing the more advanced horizontal elements that top horizontal players do I understand it because I studied it so I find it super cool to watch, being able to understand what’s goin on and knowing the difficulty level and dedication required to hit those tricks.
lowkey facts
But the real question is. Is YOUR opinion the unpopular one, or is it mine
You just blew my mind… I’m gonna have to give this one some thought!
It doesn’t take a whole lot to blow my mind.
Yes. Landing something really hard on a yoyo is very fun. The sense of satisfaction is great and the admiration from people who understand how difficult it is is good motivation to continue.
Except when it only happens by accident/luck.
That’s another unpopular opinion: Yoyoing is only fun when you’re in total control of what’s happening.
I have a lot of fun yoyoing, even though I can never control the weather outside…
I disagree and I actually have one example of that lol. Once i was trying to hit this trick and I got frustrated and did a pinwheel and a slack whip at the same time out of frustration, and landed a tower right out of nowhere. I have no idea how that happened and I’ve never been able to replicate it. It was fun. I’m glad i recorded it.
Disagreement is expected. It isn’t in the “unpopular opinion” thread for no reason…
A yoyo’s ability to tilt off-plane is a positive performance characteristic.
I agree, but only when you mean for it to.
(Side note: I have not yet ever meant for it to, but I assume that one day I will.)
I don’t mind it as a sort of spice you add to routines but if it becomes the main thing… well that’s like saying “the main dish is now Texas Pete” and that’s bad.
