Tricks that fix tension during a freestyle

I know how to adjust my tension in between throws, but are there tricks I can do in the middle of a group of tricks to keep the tension where I need it?

I’m going to assume you’re playing 1A.

First and flashiest that comes to mind would be DNA for really taught string. UFO if your good enough to transition straight to horizontal play.

While playing side style, if you pull the string off the front, that will release tension. With a trapeze, drape th string over nth thumb and pull string leading to the bearing to the front. Front style play, pulling off to the left will release tension (right handed player).

Just doing a sidewinder is the easiest and quickest.

I’m going to guess that pros just play through it, building a balanced routine of tricks that create and release tension. They always start with completely neutral string. If you’re keen enough, you’ll catch someone doing a quick sidewinder because they may have missed the previous trick and maybe it spun out creating a bunch of tension.

Yeah, these are all the ways I know how to do it…but if the tension gets one way after doing certain tricks, it would stand to reason other tricks would go the other way.

Just throw the other way for the dna or the ufo or do the sidewinder to the other side

Trick/routine construction is important. Tricks like hooks, brentstole, etc tighten because of a clockwise whip. Negative whips/hooks, reverse brentstole will loosen because of a counter clockwise whips. Similarly some tricks will loosen like jade whips and similar motions. So you need to find out what works for you to keep the the tension close to neutral as you can.
