Top always landing on the side, pointing to the left

I’ve got my robotic throwing arm correct (right handed btw), and am aiming about 4-5’ away…but 9/10 times, my tops land at an angle where the tip is pointing to the left. I’ve read plenty of generic fixes about changing angle, etc, but since this is a specific landing…can anyone perhaps offer me some specific advice?

Thanks in advance!!

Here’s where top play being a steep learning curve come into play. Without a video it might be difficult to troubleshoot. But…. It still boils down to a couple things.

Number one, your string length.

Number two, the power in which you throw may or may not be consistent. This also comes in to play based on string length.

Number three, and this can “fix” all. The angle at which you hold the top. This is where it’s as difficult as 2a yo-yo. Everything you do affects the angle. So if all else is incorrect, you can correct it with held angle.

Ps. The actual reason my trompo in the above video lands sideways when I throw it correctly (tip pointing straight up) is a direct result of my string being too long. As a personal preference, I would consider this string too short. Therefore I would correct the throw with an aggressive angle or even some other shenanigans while throwing to get the top to move where I want it.

Most people may not want that headache and simply cut the string down a few inches. But you should troubleshoot the throw and only cut string when you know it’s “too long” for a fact. You can’t add it back after it’s cut lol. :joy:

The only thing I would add to the above is that you may be trying to throw it a bit too far away, try 2 or 3 feet.
What kind of top, and how long is the string, are you using a ring or a wrap?

Thanks all! Definitely going to try messing with the string lengths; I’ve been using the default strings that come with the tops. For reference, my go-tos have been Yoyofactory Short Circuit and Elec-Trick tops, but I’ve noticed this issue with every top I’ve thrown.
