I got this Tom Kuhn Heirloom Box off eBay a while ago before I really appreciated what it was… and how it is a short trip through yo-yo history.
- Two 3-in-1s, Smo-Bro / butterfly and Diamond / imperial (1978)
- SB-1 wood sleeve but metal body (1984)
- SB-2 ball bearing, metal body, friction stickers (1990)
- Two ball bearing woodens, Sleep Machine / butterfly and Roller Woody / imperial (1992)
Kinda crazy that the two wooden bearing models came after the SB-2! I am not a huge fan of the way you have to manually dial in the gap on those two, it reminds me of the eH, and I feel like the attraction of yo-yos of this era should be simplicity… and that ain’t simple!
Still, it is really cool to have wooden metal bearing yo-yos and I need to spend some more time with them.
