Thoughts on Outlier+?

Throwing in my very very biased opinion here. Super interesting to see everyone else’s thoughts on the Outlier+. I love to see how what I put out in the world gets critiqued. Outlier+ was designed to be wide and also manufacturable. Having been burned by Outlier 3, where we chased something extreme at the expense of manufacturability was a nightmare. So Jeff and I made sure the rims had plenty of area to grab on, also that it’d be durable to knocks that happen inevitably when competing. I empathise with some of the ‘boring’ or ‘sluggish’ critiques. But it was a trade I was willing to make to ensure that most customers would get a smooth durable yoyo.

For Outlier 5, we tried to go for it all. Fast, wide and manufacturable. I initially experimented with a 64gram Outlier 5, same weight as Outlier 3, but cranking the diameter just makes the yoyo feel big and hollow. So while the Outlier 5 (Proto) was the same weight as the Outlier 3 it felt weak. I later realised that you need to add weight while increasing diameter, or you run the risk of making it feel light and weak. So Outlier 5, while the same weight as Outlier + feels faster and lighter all things considered.

I’ve also seen a lot of other great throws recommended here. Ultimately, the Outlier+ / Outlier 5 were designed for me. A somewhat talentless but persistent competitive yoyo player that needs a lot of equipment assistance to land his stuff. If that sounds like you I’d recommend these, if not, there are plenty of other brands that can provide you with really top notch stuff!
