I personally didn’t like Jakes freestyle.
It reminds me of the Olympics. It seems like they’ll let you represent any country that will allow it. You see people representing the country where their parents were born (even if they weren’t born there), or where they’ve lived for just a short time. I guess as long as the country has no problem with it, it’s all good. A lot of countries welcome the additional representation, especially when they don’t have a lot of competitors for the event. :-\
I shed a tear during Anthony’s 1a. Please tell me I’m not the only one!
im with you here. Jakes routine was dope.
anothony rojas’s routine was really good i liked it better then gormley’s but gormley won and it wont ruin my life anthony’s time is coming…
anyone got a lonk to Anthony’s performance? a quick googling didn’t bring up anything.
EDIT
here it is took me a while to find it but in case someone else wants it. It’s pretty awesome very different stuff.
Roja’s body involvement is next level. If only he had more string hits!!!
Is there any footage of the female devision? I can’t find anything.
I got shivers.
It’s right up there with Jensen’s 2011 Worlds.
1A: Zach really dominated. 7 points ahead and rather high T.Ev and P.Ev scores. Now you see why he won.
I’m kinda disappointed that Takeshi wasn’t as clean as he usually was. But daaaang, did you guys see all the new tricks he dished out? Crazy! Can’t wait to see them performed properly.
Why isn’t anyone stressing that Gentry had the highest P.Ev? Lol. That routine was amazing! He could’ve placed higher without the restart, definitely.
2A: Shinji just dominated! I was so happy to find out he won. Shu got second so I’m happy for him too!
3A: Hajime redeemed himself from the Japan Nats as I expected. I think having his mind on 4A kinda messed his 3A up then. But as you can see, crazy crazy Hajime is back. Kinda sad that Takumi wasn’t as clean as he was in the prelims and semis. But that’s ayt. He still earned some respect when placed 1st in the 4A prelims and semis and 1st in 3A prelims and 2nd in 3A semis.
4A: This was extremely shocking. But I guess part of the beauty of Worlds is the uncertainty of it all. I did think Rei could mess up but I didn’t expect Naoto Onishi to take it. I was expecting Michael to take it but he wasn’t clean this year. Crazy! I was so happy when I saw that Takumi got second. So proud of the guy! And he was just 1.6 points behind. If he didn’t have any restarts, he would’ve won!
About Ben tho, if you’ve watched his previous freestyles, you’d know this one’s more reserved and safe. Clean yes but his previous freestyles had tricks with tons of risk. His click points weren’t that high here so I kinda guess that’s why.
5A: 5A this year was nuts! Jake Elliot has a .03 lead against Takeshi. Two things: #1, Jake Elliot did extremely well and was extremely clean. #2, despite dirty freestyle and restart, Takeshi was still just a measly .03 points away. Amazing! Bryan was darn clean but I had a feeling he would score high but not high enough. Proud of him tho! 1 place up from the 2013 Worlds!
Amazing worlds this year! Too much fun when you anticipate everything!
1A: No surprise there, Zach is incredible. Although, I did expect Takeshi to be in the top 3, but I can understand because he’s got 2 divisions to worry about.
2A: The king has returned! Shinji is phenomenal, and undoubtedly the best 2A player ever!
3A: Hajime’s performance is probably the best display of yoyo mastery I have ever seen.
4A: I was expecting Ben to place higher, but I’m still really pleased with the results. Naoto is an amazing player who truly deserved to win.
5A: I’m a big Takeshi fan, but Jake crushed it this year. 0.03 points is a very, very small difference, but no complaints here.
Didn’t have the chance to watch WYYC at all, but I had a look at the results scores and read a few posts here. Just my observations, probably nothing here that wasn’t already mentioned. Haven’t had the chance to see any freestyles either, except Jake’s.
1a - Congratulations Zach for taking 1a. I watched his “YoYo Kid - World’s Best YoYo Champion” 3 million+ view youtube video a few days ago and I guess it’s actually true now, he’s the best. Takeshi Matsuura taking 4th in 1a and 2nd in 5a is impressive as well, had a feeling when I saw his 5a freestyle way back in 2008 that this kid would be something special. Seeing the last 4 1a champions now finishing no higher than 6th; just goes to show how competitive this division is (less than 2 points separating 2nd and 7th). Good to see Ryoti Ogi here too, he’s a favourite of mine. Anthony Rojas is another favourite of mine, i’ll be sure to watch his freestyle.
2a - To be honest I don’t follow 2a a lot, so I don’t know if Shinji even competed in the last few WYYCs, but I’m not surprised he won here though, how many times has he won 2a? Japan taking 8/10 spots (with HK taking the other 2) is impressive as well.
3a - Heard of Hajime Miura a few days prior to the WYYC, saw his Japan Nationals routine and was thoroughly impressed. Finishing almost 20 points ahead of 2nd is impressive as well. Is he the 2008 Takeshi Matsuura of 3a?
4a - Here I was thinking Rei was the king of 4a, but finishing 3rd? The 2 guys ahead of his must have brought their A-game. I see a big -6 from Rei and a -2 from Takumi, even with clean freestyles from both, Rei would have finished .1 behind Takumi. Can’t wait to watch these top 3 freestyles.
5a - Big surprise for me here, i’m embarrassed to say I never heard of Jake Elliott prior to this WYYC (Haven’t followed much since 2012), but i’ll definitely pay more attention now. Looks like Takeshi had a stop that put him behind by 0.03, costing him the title.
Women’s - Another division I don’t follow a whole lot, I should probably change this.
Over 40 - Is this new? A free-for-all division exclusive to people over 40? I like this idea, showing how timeless yoyoing actually is. Interesting scoring system too.
1A: Zach has been waiting on this title for a long time and so have his fans. He is an incredible player with an incredible style who deserves to achieve this world championship. His freestyle was incredible. As for the other players, it was so close between the top few, they all did a great job.
2A: Shinji just destroyed the stage on this one. Shu Takada and he are the only two 2A players I can truly enjoy while watching.
3A: Hajime has two under his belt and I have to agree with the previous poster on the fact that this is the new Takeshi Matsuura of 3A. He seems to be unstoppable here. This freestyle was even better than last year’s. I can not wait to see what this kid brings to worlds these coming up years.
4A: Again, I must agree with the previous poster, Rei seemed to be the world champion already. But then, after watching, Noato Onishi’s freestyle, my mind was blown. He does nothing crazy fast but everything is smooth and really good.
5A: Jake Elliott’s freestyle has just become my favorite 5A freestyle ever. It was just incredible. The horizontal, the speed, the technical elements, all of it was just incredible. Way to go Jake. Takeshi’s freestyle was good too and I can’t believe the tiny score difference. Kudos to judges for figuring that one out.
Women’s: Still haven’t watched the videos but the results were surprising. I didn’t think Julia Gutowska and Tessa Piccillo would finish that low in the group.
Over 40: Did not follow
SpinTop: Did not follow
Did anyone see Hajime’s Technical execution score? It was perfect!
It really was
Makes me wonder, who had the highest total score ever awarded at a WYYC, all divisions?
Takeshi in 5A at some contest, probably.
Hiroki Miyamoto and Rei Iwakura both got 100 in 3a and 4a respectively in 2008
Takeshi only got a 99.65 that year :
Probably a few more 100s out there somewhere
I’m not going for all divisions, but here are the top 10 1A scorings (since 2000, I can’t find many results from before that online):
- 99.20 - Hiroyuki Suzuki 2006
- 97.44 - Johnnie Delvalle - 2003
- 96.18 - Jensen Kimmit 2010
- 95.80 - Hiroyuki Suzuki 2005
- 95.00 - Hiroyuki Suzuki 2004
- 94.61 - John Ando 2008
- 93.80 - Shinya Kido 2009
- 93.70 - Yuuki Spencer 2007
- 93.17 - Yu Kowanda 2000
- 91.30 - Tomonari Ishiguro 2001
So at a ridiculous score of 99.20, this is potentially the highest scoring 1A Worlds routine of all time (until one of the old masters comes in with a result from 1992 and corrects me):
Another chance at a record here:
Is Jake Elliott’s win over Takeshi but .03 points the closest the top 2 have ever been in any division?
