So this may have already been discussed, but I have noticed a lot of tools out there for the yoyoist. There’s certainly the MonkeyfingeR rhino, and YYF has a tool, but I was looking for something that traditionally lives in the general pocket knife category. Here is my humble offering. Case knives makes a knife specifically designed for bird hunters. It is appropriately called the “Bird Hunter”. It includes the typical knife blade as well as a hook for doing stuff to the bird that need not be mentioned in this forum. That hook is perfect for untangling strings. It is narrow enough to fit inside a fixed axle yoyo, and is perfect for grabbing the string. A photo can be found at
Oh yeah? I didn’t know that! We can’t have knives of a certain size or construction either, but something utility like a Swiss Army Knife is not a problem. The Gerber is even smaller than a Swiss Army Knife.
But it’s not really like that in practice. I bolded the part that really matters, because it pretty much boils down to the reason you have it. If any police officer doesn’t like your explanation for carrying it (or just doesn’t like you), you’re off down the local nick. Unlike the USA, saying “for self defense” is not a valid reason… in fact it’s probably a guaranteed jail sentance.
I have a tiny little Gerber myself, but it just doesn’t seem worth it to me to carry it around. Don’t want to run the risk of coming across a bobby having a bad day and find myself being escorted off in the back of a paddy-wagon.
Looks like I’ll have to stick to just unscrewing my yoyos to take out knots. ;D
