Ignore me if you want, call me crazy if you want but I gotta say it.
I was preaching solids here for awhile but Iâve come to the conclusion your just not going to do them (with the exception of gold)
So lets try this, In my opinion CLYW makes some of the best yoyos on the planet no argument there. But most of your anno jobs are way, way to busy too much stuff going on and I feel it clutters up what would of been a really awesome anno job.
The culprit here is the âSpeckledâ layer you add the anno job, it seems like more and more of your throws are getting this treatment, sometimes less really is more.
Now before everyone slams me for this just know this is simply an opinion of one customer take it for what its worth (if anything). I would like to think that Chris and other manufacturers like to hear what their customers think good and bad.
And yes I do have a few CLYWâs but I would have so many more if most of them werenât so ⌠well⌠ugly.
I wouldnât go as far as saying CLYWâs are ugly, but I feel some simpler colorways might be nice a little more often. But as for your claim of Gold being the only solid color they make thatâs, well, completely false. There have been quite a few solid colors done by CLYW.
I like most of their colorways, some are a bit busy, but they still look great. I agree that some more simpler colors would be nice if they popped up a bit more often, which would also reduce the price, but CLYW already makes colorways that are basically just solids with a speckle or splash.
I donât think theyâre changing anytime soon though, because look at their sales! They sell out of everything within days, if not hours. One of the things CLYW is known for, and why they have attained such a strong following is for their anodization. They wonât change for the wants of the few.
The thing is, they make what sells. This is a quintessential âvocal minorityâ - a passionate but tiny segment that gives the impression that tons of people want solid or subtle annos.
The real data is in the sales. Solid colours sit in store for weeks, whereas colourways like Black Bip Bop are snatched up quick. If you really wanna see more solids, buy them at every opportunity, and get others to do the same.
I guess the validity of that statement is going to be truly tested with the release of the yeti. From my perspective (and from the sentiments expressed by Chris and other forum members) it seems as though the potential for the yetis to generate enough sales is doubtful, which is why Chris seems a little anxious about these (which is understandable considering how much he put in to make them).

Thatâs an overstatement, for sure! There are a few of us who prefer solids or subtle annos (and there ARE some; there are some nice acid-washed throws in the CLYW lineup) but I highly doubt that because weâve shared our opinion weâve given ANYONE the impression that âtonsâ of people agree with us. I think weâre a minority who appears to be⌠a minority.
Yeah, but Iâm not just going off of this thread - Iâve seen this sentiment sprinkled throughout the forums. Maybe it is the same people over and over, I tend to ignore usernames. And I mean its natural to assume that if you see 4 people talking about it, thereâs gotta be 400 thinking it.
To yoyochucker, not everything CLYW makes sells out. On YYE, they just got a new run of Arctic Circles in stock, and the old run hadnât sold out yet. In the old run were solid gold yoyos - theyâre 10$ cheaper and they still havenât sold out.
It was brief, lol. Just a snippet on YoYoSkills or YoYoNews when it was first announced as far as I know. âYeti is the best plastic yoyo Iâve ever playedâ or something like that.
