Please let me get one thing straight before expectations go out the window … the Yeti won’t have zero vibe. It’s an injection molded plastic with no weight rings, or caps. It’s just not possible for us to have ALL of them come out with zero vibe, some do though. We’ve put in a lot of time and money into creating a throw that is innovative and meets our highest standards for performance and play.
I’ll try my best to ensure that each Yeti is amazing. The price point will be between the $37-40 range, I feel that this is quite reasonable. I hope you will too.
The Yeti is a beast! Many high profile yoyoers have already said that it’s the best playing plastic out there. Can’t wait to release them!
I’d love to try a production Yeti when they come out. It was definitely a cool yoyo, but the vibe deterred me a lot. I think yoyos play better when they’re smooth, so I’ll have to check out the newer ones when they drop!
Is it glass filled or glass reinforced plastic? i have been reading up on these glass/plastic hybrids since it was mentioned in the YoYoNews article. Reinforced plastic has a higher tensile strength than the glass filled.
Steve:
I didn’t know this either, there is a glass filled polycarbonate. Zelux and Makrolon are two brand names for the stuff.
Yep, I experimented with either those or something similar when Duncan was making Lexan Imperials for some GE anniversary party. I remember looking in to it for Freehands but the cost was way too high.
I wouldn’t be surprised. I think after the mold is payed for the actual product made from the mold is cheap so it would be pretty easy (money wise) to make a 1000
Thanks man, that is exactly what I was looking for. Probably not a viable material candidate for CLYW but if it were that would make for one crazy looking Yeti.
In spite of Lexan being a marginally higher quality polycarb than the “off brands”, it still has all the same sink/drying issues as regular polycarb and generally the same weight and density. I believe the reason for looking for a denser material was to solve weight issues without the addition of weight rings, so it stands to reason that Lexan and variants wouldn’t really do the trick unless they went with a material-filled version, but it’s that fill that causes the issues that generally preclude visual additives (like Enyo and other effects).
