The Duncan FREEHAND is back!

In 2001 the original Duncan Freehand was launched and with it came a change in the world of yoyos. Duncan had tapped into something unique. Although the why was not fully understood, everybody recognized it: the Freehand was special.

In addition to launching a new style of play, the Freehand’s shape, aesthetics, and feel made it into an instant classic. Over the years Duncan has explored many different designs emphasizing various elements of the original, but with different materials and shapes. With great pleasure, on the original Freehand’s 20th anniversary, Duncan is returning to their roots with what might be the best plastic Freehand yet!

The Freehand® collection stands alongside the Imperial® and Butterfly® as one of the most iconic series in the Duncan line, so it was important for Duncan to make it right!⁣ This December run is a preproduction model. Available in classic Red, Yellow and Blue with classic white caps!

Sunday 12/19 @ 8PM EST.

Very cool!

Any chance we can get a picture of the packaging?

Sadly the packaging isn’t green

lol

I just think it’d be fun if it came in retail packaging instead of the plastic boxes most of their throws ship in.

Like the old blister packs?

This first batch is just packaged in plastic bags. Not sure if Duncan has plans for different packaging in the future or not, but it’s what’s inside the packaging that matters right?

I read somewhere recently that this preproduction run will be in bags, and the real production run with the color printed on the caps will be in clamshell packaging. Maybe @bjardin can confirm?

Preproduction is just polybag.
Production run is clamshell (OG style) packaging.

Edit:
Also, this is a one-time run color, rushing for Christmas release.

I’m very excited about this.
Couple of questions @bjardin
Is the axle stainless steel in the new version?
4.5mm gap? Or is that just a typo

Lastly, huge thanks for all the hard work!

huh, the 4.5 gap is def a typo - It’s an A bearing. I’ll make a note to update specs in the morning.

Thanks for the confirmation guys

Is there any coupon codes or sales going?

How soon can we expect to see additional color options?

It’s clamshell and needs to be shipped via ocean to get the best MSRP for you guys. I’d shoot for early 2022.

I am so glad they tried going as close as possible to the original specs and pretty much nailed it, give or take a hair.

Also glad they did the response the way they did.

Can’t wait to see what colors they go with.

I’m going to have to track down some Save Deth stickers.

Yeah - I have to say having played with it for three days straight Duncan (and @bjardin) knocked this one out of the park!

Out of the box/bag it plays like a perfectly broken in classic Freehand ONE - and in some ways - there are some small improvements. You can feel the high quality in all aspects including the caps, the plastic body - how it fits together, the solid feel, and the quality of spin.

It really is an amazing experience to throw this beloved yoyo again and I think people will also find it to be a really wonderful yoyo to get others started on too!

I heard each store got a pretty large amount but don’t have any hard numbers.

ETA: I saw 145 blue, 145 red, and 94 yellow after the counter finished, 384 total just at YYE, so hopefully everyone who wants one has a chance to snag one!
