The 0A Thread (Fixed Axle & Modern Responsive)

you could sell a yoyo and buy two…

I got mine with a purchase that was just short of clearance for free shipping. I justified it by balancing that cost out.

I just find it unplayable in every yoyo I’ve tried it in.

@adamantiumpops if I find mine I’ll sell it to you cheap!

@Myk_Myk out of curiosity, what was “off” about it?

It’s just too fat and generally, the shape and weight of an unresponsive body is really far out of the realms of fixed axle design.

No spin time at, and worst during decay of spin. I suppose you could only do stalls with it, and maybe that’s how people use it, but even then it has a very unappealing feel to me.

Noice! You know where to find me!

i would agree. but, you are still seeing as much time and effort being put into the design and manufacture of fixed axle throws… and fixies dropping… and clearing out with an $85+ is some evidence of that i would say… i would also say there is just as much encouragement and support in the throwers community regardless of the play style.

There are definitely lower end and higher end fixed axle yoyos at a large price range, but even still, people feel more that the equipment doesn’t matter as much as with unresponsives, I think.

yeah… unfortunately the fixed axle market is limited… in terms of comparable to unresponsive

When it comes to fixies, i basically fixate on using one at a time for extended periods. Whereas with unresponsive yoyos the transition from one to the other is refreshing, the change in feel and response from one fixie to the next is actually a burden. I think this is because the response of a fixie is more important to trick execution than it is with unresponsives. So im less likely to lust after a new product and just jam with the one im using.

But still, the desire is there and I would like to buy more different fixies, but the availability and selection is definitely lacking. Though I am going to hawk the next Blood Cell by Spinworthy cause I love the design and think it would fill a niche I currently don’t have a yoyo for. Honestly I prefer the slow moving fixie market to the fast paced unresponsive one, cause you can genuinely anticipate individual releases and appreciate them truly. The rapid-fire unresponsive yoyo releases leave me lusting after another in a week’s time, but with fixies I get to truly appreciate the newness without temptation coming immediately after. I feel like im just rambling now so ill leave this here.

I’d like to try something other than woods I have (Legend wing and a Spintastics) but I am loving both so much that they leave me thoroughly satisfied. I think if I ever get beyond a couple loops and hop the fence I may buy something more costly but what I can do with these two yoyos is ALL I had as goals when I impulsed purchased a blue Duncan Imperial in August 2015. As soon as I get a new metal I am looking at OTHER metals I may want to buy.

A LOT of how easily you execute modern fixed axle tricks depends less on how well the yoyo performs and more on how well you KNOW it.

Also while you can build a great metal yoyo as a digital file and have it realized by machines, the best fixed axle yoyos are made by people cutting wood slowly and carefully, and one at a time.

Those two factors pretty much ensure that we need and will see comparatively fewer quality fixies out there in the marketplace.

Yeah there are just a few out there. Super rare.

Fortunately for the parameters I set long ago for my collection, I’m happy to have one variation of each edition I can find, so my classic 84 Olympics will do fine lol.

Lol one of those hits the bay quicker than I can find an Infinite Illusions 2 girls! Ah well.

I feel like yoyoing is just one of THOSE hobbies where it’s really easy to get sucked into the consumerism factor of it. The market is just so fast-paced and oversaturated. I really love the 0a movement bc some of the most enjoyable yoyoing i’ve done has been on yoyos that cost less than 10$. Burning through a wooden axle feels a lot like burning through a skateboard deck, there’s something really organic feeling about it.
