Tariffs on Chinese yo-yo's

Haha I was taken to collections for a toll bill for $7 for doing the hood river to white salmon bridge during the pandemic.

It’d be less frustrating if the tariffs weren’t just going into certain people’s pockets :upside_down_face:

Canadians have delt with this for so long. FedEx and UPS are the absolute worst, they literally double the fees or worse. There are ways around it by self declaring but they make the process as annoying as possible on purpose.

Yeah I’ve been hit by a few FedEx surprise bills…

Yes. It’s coincidentally almost always FedEx. They seem to have adopted some questionable business practices since the tariff situation first popped up.

Well DHL takes it a step further cause the hold the packages hostage and threaten to send them back if you can’t pay the extra fees

They sure do. UPS also does that. At least they don’t force me into wire transfers to pay the fees though. And FedEx always seems to tag on large processing fees that cost more than the tariffs.

Actually, with the previous tariffs being declared illegal, many large companies stand to reap huge rewards by collecting rebates on previously paid tariffs. Since it is the individual consumer that actually paid these fees; those companies will make a windfall.

Funny thing about that. As a Canadian I often ship items into the US or other countries. ONLY the US still requires a registration process in which tariffs and fees are paid up front before mailing. Everyone else on the planet? No tariffs, no problems.

As a favour for my US friends I will break out the Declaration ID charge from the item cost just so they see it. Could bury it in the item cost, but tellin’ the troot was smacked into me as a kid.

The one exception is if the item was originally made in the US. Then, no fees. Which is kinda funny to sell somebody something made in the US 100 years ago, and still have to declare it and run through the process just to get the official QR code that says, “no fee.”

That’s the times. I got nailed for some atrocious tariff level for buying a US yoyo recently. Toys evidently get hit harder. Should get my doc to write a scrip for yoyos for my mental health. [shrug]

I try not to use UPS – even FedEx is better. UPS hires better drivers though, here anyway. Over the last 20 years we’ve had more FedEx trucks than UPS trucks go off the road and end up in the ditch at the end of the driveway in the winter. I’ll take 'em a hot cup of coffee and a cookie while they wait for the tow truck for a couple hours.

Just got this one this morning. This is from $170 worth of bearings I ordered directly from the factory. FedEx charged more than double the cost of the tariffs in fees for them paying the $7. They are running quite the racket.

That’s just a facade by Trump so he can pretend that he’s not making things more expensive for Americans, since he’s making foreigners pay the tarrifs and it’s definitely not going to be reflected in pricing.

… And a new, (likely) illegal tariff-system in the works to replace the old, illegal one. I expect yo-yo affordability will be a key issue in the upcoming mid-term elections.

Just paid my tarrif bill. The total Value declared was $33.99.

Exporting Country: Japan

Country of Origin: China

There was a 10% tarrif fee of $3.40.

The kicker FedEx charged me $15 extra fee like Andy. This is ridiculous.

I also ordered some things from Ali that got shipped from China and they didn’t charge me any tarrifs. I only had to pay local sales tax. So im not sure why those are exempt but the other is not.

Ali includes the tariffs in the charge usually and uses carriers that aren’t taking advantage of the situation and runnign a racketeering ring. Gee nice package, be a shame if something happened to it if you didn’t pay our tariff processing fees.
