I’m looking at the different string thickness names and I’m completely lost. Can someone help me with like a ranking from thickest to thinnest? That would be a huge help
There’s no standard. One company’s thick is another’s normal or vice versa.
Also how tight a string is can make thickness less meaningful. Like a really loose string is going to play thinner than tighter string if the same thickness.
In many ways string making is an art.
Within the past year and a half I THOUGHT I knew which string I like but in all reality I had no clue lol. You HAVE to try everything to see what you like and works for you. I went from kitty fat to kitty normal. Then to zip line alpha line… then to zip line all diff blends… then back to kitty normal… and now I’m back on alpha line series. All depends what your looking to do also for example, my alpha line string is a little thicker and heavier than kitty normal… so doing slack tricks having a heavier string helps with the slack keeping it open and whatever. Poly works better than nylon for that as well:. Nylon has its advantages as well being so comfortable and bouncy:… I can go on and on and on, good thing is string is really not expensive so you can try anything. But don’t be surprised if you come back later on and the string you thought you didn’t like ,you might actually like
concur with everything said above. i would also add that it depends on what you’re playing it on as well. i thought i could just lock into my favorite string and be done but as I’ve experimented, I’ve found different string works differently depending on the throw, like width of the yoyo and how grippy the response is
If your someone who buys like one type of yoyo and one type of string I could see this working otherwise yeah .
We aren’t even into the odd world of different blends of materials which can make thickness feel different too. Like a super thick nylon doesn’t feel as thick as an equivalent poly and so on.
Maybe try looking at string as a way to tune your yoyo to the way you want to play with it.
Each yoyo will “behave” differently with the same string per sei. Gap width, Balance. Response System, etc. all play a part on Feel.
With string being a consumable commodity of yoyo, its fairly easy to try various.
I recommend getting sampler packs (One of the reasons they make them), or 10 packs. If you find one that clicks with 1) You, 2) The Yoyo and 3) How you play (Enjoy this system); Then look at purchasing in bulk.
Last of all, Have Fun!
I echo what @Pun1sh3R says about sampler packs. It is a great way to try out different types of strings from different manufacturers.
Oh; and have fun too
