yeah the guys at yyf are really nice… hopefully you be able to really get that titanium yoyo working right…
I actually really like the subtle ano on this one. Looking great so far. Awesome watching this project progress and can’t wait to see more! That knife of yours is beautiful as well. You don’t make balisongs by chance do you…?
If you’re ever down in the Phoenix area again, there’s a few clubs with people who could definitely help out on your design. There’s one on Saturdays from 1-3 at gotham city comics in Mesa, mondays from 5-7 at samurai comics in Phoenix, Saturdays from 1-3 at the Park Place Mall in Tucson, and Saturdays from 5-7 at hobby destination in Chandler.
I’m in Phoenix 5 or 6 times a year.
But almost always am busy.
I’ll be out again next month, but will be busy at the “monkey muster”, a knife show.
I will have some YoYos to play with there though.
So, there was mention earlier in this thread about there being a sizable market for Titanium YoYo’s.
Yet I can’t help but notice that YoYoFactory’s current offering, at $200, which is about HALF of what a Titanium YoYo should cost, has only sold 40 some pieces, in the better part of a week.
One of which, is to me.
I think the market is much smaller than some of you think, or I am missing some sort of behind the scenes action that would explain this.
ANY Titanium YoYo at $200 is a flat out steal of a deal.
A lot of people on here will say things but not follow through. I’ve seen people all the time value something very high yet they’re not interested in paying the price once it comes out. Part of the reason it’s not selling so well is because a lot of people are not big fans of yyf and the stigma from the ricochet has kept some people from being interested. That said the new yyf titanium looks great and I personally enjoyed my ricochet.
People also love rare things so if you produced maybe 10-20 versus yoyofactory producing enough for everyone you have a pretty good chance of collectors trying to snatch up your throw as quickly as possible. There’s a niche group on here that wants to own every type of titanium possible and I bet they’d pick up one of yours if produced but I don’t see a run of more than 20 selling quickly unless half is anodized and the other half is raw.
Well it’s YYF, and a pre-order, and a link can’t be posted here. I’d say pre-selling nearly 50 $200 yoyos in a few days is pretty dang successful. I have the money and desire for Ti, but haven’t pulled the trigger on the YYF one. I’m not convinced it will be what i want, and really don’t want the disgusting Made in China text on it like the Ricochet. I’d rather wait and see what the actual specs and production design are like and pay $300 if it’s what i want than pay $200 now for something i might not love.
Nobody’s getting rich off yoyos, period. Never mind Titanium ones. I think the market is indeed pretty small for them, though. In North America, no more than a few hundred. Worldwide, it would be an exceptional success if you managed to crack the Asian and European markets and sold a thousand total. Ever. No second runs (that includes 2nd runs).
But that’s all just my BS guess-work. I have absolutely zero real knowledge. None. Zilch.
What measure success, though? As a hobby side-project, if you managed to sell 50 titanium yoyos and made $75 profit for each, $3750 gets you a pretty neat quad copter.
Oh, I agree that they are likely doing well, selling 50 in a week.
Just pointing out that I think the market likely isn’t as vast as some folks think it is.
I could likely sell sell 20, in short order, to my existing customer base.
Not to YoYo enthusiasts mind you, just my normal customer base.
A project needs to be 50-100 to be worthwile, and payoff the startup expenses.
Anything less than that, are just fun, vanity projects.
