What is the sleep time of the Sage?
It really depends on the thrower and how straight the throw is. Not much else.
6 minutes.
This. Also, the bearing comes into play, but what jhb said are going to be the most predominant factors.
I have a pretty good throw and play responsive, so a good estimate would be around (I’ve only ever played with a fixed axle) 3 minutes?
It’s hard to tell. For instance, I have friends who are good with a responsive, classic shaped yoyo but then when it comes to 1a yoyos they can’t get 2 minute throws. For me however I do decent with a responsive and I can get a 1a yoyo to sleep for 10 minutes plus… It’s hard to tell how it will actually be. And from person to person it will be different.
6 minutes stock is about right for most modern plastics, this assumes the player have enough skill and the knowledge on how to achieve that.
And by that I mean with all the twisting method and such.
With no twisting, it can be between 1-3 minutes, gambling basically.
No 6 minutes without manipulation
Parvar is the champion of that plastic throw spin time contest after all.
Yes, it’s all about the thrower.
Wait what, where is the spin time contest I missed it…
It was a while back I won a cyborg 2.0 in it.

And on my youtube you can find my 6 minute sleeper with yoyojam classic without manipulation
Alright, that really bummed me out…
In the other hand, I’ll see if I can beat your record without manipulation.
Edit: I tip my hat to you, no matter how I neutralize my string tension, how straight I throw, even moving around a little, I can’t get it to spin straight enough. I haven’t set my record yet but I know if it has started to tilt in the early 1-2 mins, it won’t spin long enough.
You just proven something I’ve always thought impossible.
Agreed. I clicked on that video expecting some kind of subtle string-twisting action, but the fact is… that literally is just a straight up 6 minute sleeper with a YYJ Classic.
My reality has been turned on it’s head. :-X
It all depends on which sage you are referring to. I heard that King Solomon got at least 8 hours a night.
This… ;D ;D
This can shed some light. This was written by me in an old post.
thought I’ll tell what happened.
The contest was are sleeper contest. Where you had to use a yoyo less than 30$ plastic yoyo. Without manipulating the string.
I had a yoyojam classic with Buddha Whiple in it. And I did put a fresh kitty string nylon 1.5 in it and got 5 minutes 5 second sleep time. I was topping the leaderboard at that time easily. Then another person got 5 minutes and 56 seconds with his stock yoyofactory replay pro.
And I thought that if I’ll throw bit more hard I’ll beat it easily. Then next day threw the yoyo couldn’t get more then 2 minutes. Till that time I was thinking that the bearing is really centering that’s why I was geting those sleep times.
I thought that the string is old I’ll change it but I changed it to polyester normal kitty this time no results I was like what happened I was not happy I thought I’ll loose the contest.
Then third day after trying all stuff from changing the bearing to everything then I thought why not use fresh nylon again and that was it got 6 minutes and 7 seconds and won the contest.
I don’t know how that happened. Because of string?
I’ve always said that sleeping without string manipulation is like gambling. There might be one time when you’re lucky that everything lines up perfectly, the string rests perfectly, the string tension is perfect, and you get close to string manipulated time. However if one wants to rely on luck alone I think one should do it many times enough and that probably won’t be on camera because that wastes so much time (also the reason why I won’t test it personally).
Fact is, it’s on camera, the proof is right there. It might be skill, maybe there is something I missed, I’m not really in a place to judge.
