I need help, my yoyo won’t sleep and I’ve tried: replacing the string, throwing it really hard, watching videos to try and fix it, none of them worked.
what yoyo is it?
Duncan reflex
that yoyo has an auto return clutch. it’s really not designed for sleepers and string tricks. do you have anything else you can use?
You may have more luck throwing it very, very gingerly so as to not trip the response. I haven’t used a yoyo with an ‘auto clutch’ before though. For what it’s worth, you can probably do lots of fun looping tricks with what you’ve got.
no I don’t
Maybe I could, but I probably don’t have the skill level
Learning Forward Pass and Around the World is not too hard.
Then it’s a step up to do the looping the versions of those. I’d say looping is easier to start learning than other styles, and it’s a fun way to relax with a yoyo if you’re not taking it too seriously.
Brains can and should be able to sleep, the issue is either in your technique or potentially having the string wrapped around the axle more than once.
Here’s a video explaining the technique of throwing a sleeper, also do make sure that the string is properly attached to your yoyo.
The Duncan Reflex is butterfly shaped. It just has a feature that makes it auto-return when it’s running out of spin.
Thanks!
I also learned to throw on a Brain type yoyo, and making them sleep is a bit weird compared to other types of yoyos. Basically, you need to throw it with enough force to engage the clutch mechanism and force it open. But, you also need to throw very cleanly because if you jerk the yoyo too much as it hits the end of the string it will return since it’s responsive. Balancing these two factors can be tough at first. Keep at it and you’ll get it! Honestly though, I would recommend switching to a ball bearing yoyo because these will be much nicer for learning tricks once you start learning your first mount based tricks.
