i just got a duncan reflex for my first yoyo as a gift. i cant get a new one. i just found out it cant sleep for long, max being around 3-8 seconds but mine auto returns immediately after hitting bottom. what should i do?
Sounds like it could be a couple things.
Since it is an auto-return YoYo, it needs a good hard throw to sleep, to spin the “clutch” away from the axle.
Another possibility is the string is knotted around the axle.
Another common beginner issue is taking the YoYo apart and putting it back together with the string still on the axle, and it getting pinched by the YoYo when reassembled. String should be twisted open and put over the assembled YoYo. Auto-returns such as your Reflex should have a double loop around the axle, done by opening the string, sliding it over the YoYo, twist the string once, and slip it over the YoYo again.
Best of luck, let us know how you do!
i havent taken the yoyo apart before nor have i changed the string
Okay, so likely you need to increase the “power” of your throw, that’ll just come with practicing it.
Most people instinct to throw a YoYo is with the palm down and letting the YoYo roll down, this is not effective.
You need to hold the YoYo with your palm up, and bend your elbow like your making a muscle, and then whip the YoYo down to really get some speed into it, and turn your hand over after you release
Here is @brandonvu explaining technique
just to confirm im checking the yoyo rn it looks like the loop u use on ur middle finger that tied on the center bit
Well, there for sure should not be a knot there lol.
i mean like the double string thingy on the center bit
and a small i think its a knot securing the string so it doesnt run out
do u need a pic
Yeah lemme take a pic of my fireball so you can see what a “known good” loop around the transaxle looks like
Nice and even
There should be no knot at all at the YoYo end, here is what the end of the string looks like not on an axle
Hmmm yeah looks like it may be tangled. You can take the YoYo apart and slip the string off the axle, untangle and put the YoYo back together and then re-install the string the way I described above and see how it works for ya
is there another way? i dont know how to take it apart and im kinda scared. this is my bday gift and i dont wanna break it
you need to put it back together without the string, then put the string back on. pinch the end of the string with both hands and twist so it opens up the loop and you can slide it around the yoyo
Yeah this is why I was saying to open it, take the string off, reassemble the YoYo, and then put the string on over the assembled YoYo. All good, just take it apart and try that
Just be sure to make the YoYo snug, but do not crank it tight.
Also, happy birthday!
i just put the string back and i cant get the string to turn in the yoyo
