At this point in my yoyo journey I wrap my bearing as many times as i need to, to make sleeping impossible. Although I appreciate the skill needed, mounting /1a type stuff is of 0 interest at this time & an unwanted “nap” can mess up what I’m trying to do. I like the feel of the yoyo rolling on the string. Speeding it up, slowing it way down, reading the speed, to the point of it barely making it back to my hand, or with a nice soft “plop”, is just so satisfying. That’s what puts a smile on my face - & that’s how I know I’m doing it right. Any1 else like me?
No matter how. If you’re having fun, you’re using it correctly. New playstyle: A “Plop” curator ![]()
I’m the total opposite! I love when it sleeps forever. I totally get it though, you just gotta do whatever’s fun!
Never tried doing more than a double wrap, but I can appreciate a highly responsive yoyo for 0a. Sleeping is not the only fun way to use a yoyo!
How long have you been playing yo-yo? Do you do any looping tricks?
20 years or so. Yes I quite like looping and hopping and … re-generations I think the term is.
For 0A, I add bearing wraps to tune the response, usually to the point of no sleep. I find it more convenient/reliable than messing with greases/lubricants. Plus, I can back off the wraps as needed if I want the yo-yo- to sleep.
What bearing do you use?
This is with the standard 10Ball.
For me, at least with 0a, I like to have some sleep but I also like the feel of as if the yoyo were on a rubber band - that cushy landing and springy snap back up when you call it…similar feel to a snappy wood fixed axle yoyo. It’s rare for me to add wraps to the bearing (I did this with my handquake 2, primarily because of the thicker wall between the bearing and response pad) and have only really done it to one of my yoyos…otherwise, my go-to is a silicone grease-packed bearing and in some cases, needing a sealed bearing for minimal re-greasing. Not so heavily packed that it dies out though, I need to at least be able to split the atom and end it with a loop
Cool, I love this style. There’s a few of us who lean heavily into no sleep and low RPM tricks, I’d recommend checking out these

You need to get into fixie play my friend! Then you don’t even need to worry about bearings at all!
This is a great collab insta that isn’t active anymore but is a reference for great 0A tricks.
Thank you!
Thanks very much! I figured there was a subset and thanks for the invite!
i have to use 4 wraps on the turbo confusion, 3 on the Origen & 3 on the RBC. and it looks like you center the string too! Thanks very much for the reply!
